Good Morning Good Night and General Chat.

Good grief. What a clusterf*ck in the US this morning

That around half the population can still vote for him given his actions over the past 4 years in unbelievable.

But I suppose parallels can be drawn with other countries too!

Had the democrats found a more convincing candidate than Biden who is basically an anyone but Trump candidate or not become excessively "socialist" which is electoral death for many Hispanic voters who are refugees from socialist paradises of Cuba and Venezuela they may have done better. Personally I can't stand Trump but I don't think I'd have voted for Biden either. When you get the degree of polarization of politics that's become the norm in the USA you tend to get the political parties following the noise and here we are. It's probably going to go the same way in the UK and other European countries too. Anyone who classes Boris with Trump needs to look harder. He's even more useless and Trump maybe mad but he does hold a line unlike the jelly bean known as Bojo.

Good Evening :D

Winter has arrived!

Had to scrape my car windows to come home this morning :?

I also had to scrape thick ice off the car so my wife could go to work. I therefore deemed it time to break out the winter gloves. The road conditions were appalling today, mud and gravel all over the place. I had an interesting few corners on my travels.

Sooooo new dilemma of sorts. New job pre employment checks still going through. I've come to the end of my probationary period at work. Notice period currently two weeks, once they confirm appointment by Letter it will likely go up to two months. Someone from the new place phoned me about ID checks, said they were keen to get people in quickly and wouldn't want to wait two months notice. So do I risk it for a biscuit and hand in 2 weeks notice without full confirmation of new job or wait for confirmation following checks but have two months notice and risk losing the new job?

If you have to confirm you wan to stay at the end of your probationary period? If so just don’t get round to it for a while.

I don't get a choice, I've passed it it's just admin haven't sent out confirmation. My boss has asked if I've received it, which when I say no will no doubt get emailed very quickly to push me into a two month notice period.

@goat aah that’s a bugger.

If I was 80% certain I’d got the job I tell them.

So how certain are you?

Well in normal circumstances I would be 80%+. But with the way things are certainty is a rare thing. I'm heavily leaning to risk it. May be that I end up with a week or two unplanned unpaid leave. I don't want to risk the new job and dislike the current one a lot.

Sounds like you’ve made up your mind and don’t wanna risk losing the new job

What happens if you tell them and it falls through?

I'll have to grovel to get back a job I detest and/or risk the shittest job market for a long time during lockdown and a pandemic.

Feck.

If I detested the job I’d risk it but I’m wary of suggesting someone else does that 😬

Ha ha, yeah I'm more interested to see what other people would do rather than suggestions I guess. Its my decision alone to make so not trying to shirk responsibility. In ordinary times it would be an easy decision.

Well in that case I’d do it.

Maybe someone more sensible will be along in a minute

Hmmmm.....that's a tricky one, mate. What checks have they got to do and how confident are you that those checks will come back OK? New place don't want to wait 2 months, so they'll likely not want to start the recruitment process again either....

Largely basic checks, dbs, which I already have, employment, etc. Can't see there being an issue unless funding for the post changes due to current weirdness.
