Deep breaths and holding the breath leads to a slowing down of the metabolism (body's rpm ) and making you calm down and be more relaxed. Also by controlling your breath you are diverting the brain's attention to something else than whatever caused the hiccups so the brain kinda "forget" what was doing and stops it. Controlling your breath is one of the techniques used in meditation, so if you do regular meditation you won't be as susceptible to hiccups 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
