  4. Progress was made, but I couldn't find a lay-by to stop in. The entrance to an old quarry had to suffice.

  5. Made a effort to stop in a layby on the moors the other evening .

  8. Good news today... it looks very much like our trip to the Eifel is back on track. There are a few hoops to jump through and these will become clear in the coming days. I'm going to leave it for a week or so for the dust to settle and hopefully everything made clear. Find out exactly what we need to do so far as leaving and returning to the UK is concerned.. as well as entry and staying in Germany. I had a quick look at the German side and there is a fairly simple English language questionnaire that needs to be filled in. I shall also speak to the hotel at some point and find out what they have to say. Obviously, there has to be one major caveat. While we are there I shall be checking the BBC every night and if there is any change of status, And we need to quarantine on return then we will leave the schloss to beat any deadline. I absolutely cannot afford to quarantine. And, I guess neither can any of you. Anyway.. if anyone hasn't booked crossings or Eureka, I would suggest leaving that for a little while, say until towards the end of this month. Unless you are feeling keen and want some sort of guarantee of a room, for instance. I have a double room booked at the Travelodge and am willing to share, just bring a sleeping bag!! I should also add that currently we are not allowed to visit Luxembourg, though riding through is fine. There are no border checks. So, there will not be a 'day in Luxembourg' this time round.

  10. If you're in N Wales this weekend avoid the A5 at Corwen, there's roadworks with a convoy system which is causing massive tailbacks. At least the view is nice where I stopped.

  17. Thanks Bonio, The tiger 800 and Z1000SX are also two bikes I have considered right at the top of my price bracket. I’ve never ridden an adventure type bike before so not sure how I feel about the upright riding position (probably just me trying to convince myself I’m not yet old enough to need a bolt upright ride). I had discounted the Z due to too much power but it’s an interesting point you make about not needing it but still appreciating it. Knowing the ergos are less sporty than the VFR is really helpful. Thanks

  19. I've no idea what they are doing as there was no sign of any work happening. The scale of it suggests it might be a few days so it might be worth checking before going that way. I might have been unlucky as I met a group of bikers who'd come down the Ruthin route and they'd not been held up. I think the guys on the road I was on either messed up or had a radio failure.

  24. All sat in a line together going to the loo, sounds very much like what we used to call thunder boxes, similar set up in one of the UN stations in Cyprus, lol, hundreds of blue bottles used to be buzzing around inside them, all waiting for a fresh log! .... TT week over here all the toilets are mixed, the women can't be bothered queuing for the ladies so they use the gents, seems to be the done thing.

  26. This reminds me why I only did selected track days with companies who put safety first (and not just lip service).

  29. Yeah I’ve been using the route Inverness to fort Augustus since a spotty teenager way back when the roads were quiet. Think the biker you might be referring too is from not too far from here. Won’t put his name as it might be disrespectful. Nice guy. It was on the road to drumnadrochit but happened close to a Inverness Sadly there was the three kids hit a few miles further out not long ago either where the 16 yr old sadly died. It’s a great Rd for bikes but just now with a huge staycation boom and a lot of people not used to driving rural roads it’s incredibly busy and people dawdling along looking for Nessie. It’s like the NC500 too much traffic. Inverness has a bike meet night on a Tuesday and a couple of weeks ago it was to ft Augustus and the loop back round through foyers etc. Nice wee evening run and in the evening Road is much more fun and a lot quieter

  31. Our Office has all Gender Neutral toilets - as for the sink, I prefer the term 'hot and cold running urinals' .
    1 point
  32. I like a gender-neutral toilet, personally. They tend to be isolated, so you're not treated to the symphony (and smell) of people taking a shit either side of you. Plus they normally give you a little sink where you can wash your knob, if you so choose.

  33. I like just pretending to follow the instructions, lead them along and then frustrating them when it's not working.

  35. You need to find out how much current alternator produces continuously (there are usually two figures, one is continuous, the other is peak). Should be in the manual, or if not a bike-specific forum will likely have the answer) Then add up how much current draw you already have for * headlamp * tail lamp * heated grips * and any other accessories (e.g. sat nav) (I wouldn't include indicators or brake lights, as these only come on occasionally) Subtract the drawn current from the available current, and you have what's still available. Leave 0.5A - 1A margin to be safe. Check the available current against the specced current draw for the lamps.

  37. Toilets .... As per the title ... trans .. fluid , binary ..... So we all pee and poop .... So why so many toilets .... My girls say that when in clubs and pubs they don’t sit ... just hover .... and often miss the intended target ... Personally I hate mixed sex toilets .. as opposed to unisex toilets .... When I was on deployment with the US Marine Corps some years ago the toilets where all sit down with no partitions !! Nothing ... you where sat having a poo with a girl sat next to you ... also having a poo ... Marines wipe back to front between the legs sitting .... Too Much Knowledge !!

  38. One of the lads from Fort Augustus lost a few toes last year down by the Loch, got a bit carried away overtaking tourists, till one unexpectedly turned into a Loch side lay-by. Lovely roads but can be dangerous as they all can be. Biker died drumnadrochit last week
