  1. I had the same problem when getting ready for my MOD2. So what I used to do was do a life saver opposite the way I was turning. So turning right on a roundabout , left life saver. All well and good I thought. Then I had one extra lesson before the MOD2 and this came up so I announced what I did and then the instructor, who was great, knew his stuff, and came across in a good manner and not a know it all pointed out one slight problem... Going straight on. You can go straight on in either the left lane or the right lane of a roundabout, so to me going straight on was a left turn, but if I was in the right hand lane my way of working it out was wrong. He explained it simply that you make the life saver on the area that you are not in, or the area on the roundabout where there is gap for another vehicle. He said that what your looking out for is cars coming up behind you in your blind area that you need to look for so that when you exit the roundabout they do not crash into you as you make your exit. Because you are so narrow they can try and get up the exit when your turning into it. Once he explained that it was simple then. So if I go over abound about, going straight on, but take it in the right lane, I would look over my left shoulder to make sure there are no cars coming up on me that may take me out. If I go straight on at a roundabout in the left lane, I would look over my right shoulder to make sure no car has come round the roundabout after I have entered that may exit my exit and come across me. That's how I do it anyway! But being only a 1 year old rider someone may point out a flaw in what I have said!
  2. Computer programmer. To be able to code things up for me would be fantastic.
  3. Meguiars stuff for the car and bike.
  4. Well done mate, after seeing my daughter and son in law both become teachers, I know how much work goes into becoming one, so well done its something to be very proud of
  5. That's my biggest problem with people who smoke. I really wish they had banned it in public spaces, but I now go to the pub because they are smoke free, just have to wait for a gap to get in past them all outside!
  6. Fish and Chips. But not just any fish and chips, need to be fried in beef fat, like at the chippy at Aldeburgh, with scraps and mushy peas done the right way, and 5 lots of bread and butter!
  7. blimey I would have been well pissed off! Shop local is what I say !!!
  8. That's incredible. I am getting the impression that the Cat and Fiddle is our 'Mulholland Snake' !
  9. My life insurance, goes down the longer have it. As it was primarily used to pay off the mortgage in the event of mine or the wife death, if I dies with only 1 year left on my mortgage it does not pay out the original amount, but only a percentage that was estimated to cover the mortgage after I had paid the bulk off over the years, if you see what I mean.
  10. so you take it out , ride the hell out of it, then wash and polish when you get home....I see no problem. have a mate with a ducati who has actually been known to jet wash it part way through a rideout lol....doesn't stop him riding it though. if you want a clean shiny bike for an ornament, buy a spare one and keep it in your living room I think that idea has some mileage!
  11. I have a really bad problem with keeping things that I like really nice and clean, so the weather in the country for me is just shite!
  12. Very nice, I like it but after watching loads of Russian motorbike and car videos on You Tube to see how its not done!, Sat Nav in the helmet would be the last thing on my mind!
  13. Ford Focus ST 2.5 Litre Turbo, but not an orange one! Without a doubt best car ever driven. Best car owned was my beloved Ford Puma, had it for 10 years, until it failed it MOT after I hit a kerb and so went to car heaven, but after 190,000 miles it never once broke down or let me down.
  14. Thank you all, much appreciated! Really looking forward to the good weather and meeting some of you more local to me! Take it easy ! thanks Kev
  15. Which do you use? It would appear that dry chain lube, may fling? Wax does not fling but can create a dirty paste after a while? Any advice wold be greatly appreciated before I go and do the wrong thing ! I only ride in dry weather if that makes any difference? thanks people
  16. Well done mate, I got mine Tuesday and I am still grinning, the relief at the end is awesome!
  17. Thanks again all. Still not sure at all what my next move will be. I really want a Honda with a centre exhaust and Repsol paint job, which is a 600RR or Fire blade, which for a DAS newbie are not sensible. I keep thinking about the CBR500R, but I thought the Yamaha XJ6 Diversion which I learned on was slow and dull, looked awful, so a 500R may not be a great choice. But there's time to think, I still need to get the deposit together, while I mull over this decision. I am not into going fast, just want a bike that looks nice and rides well. I have always wanted a sport looking bike with all the stickers on it.
  18. Thanks all much appreciated, I am still so happy, having not had to retake any of them is unreal, I am living the dream!!
  19. I am still in shock, only 3 rider faults. So the relief is huge. I am looking forward to a good nights sleep !!! thanks all Kevin
  20. Thanks for all your replies people, much appreciated, I am sure I am definitely going the right way, and I do what's required for junctions, as a cyclist already but just wanted some clarification. I think I will stick to what I have been doing in the training and try and take it easy and make it a smooth ride. One of the best things about the test is being first, as on the training there is at times another person in front etc. and you have to ride accordingly etc., plus I don't have to worry about the others behind me keeping up !! Kev
  21. As I am a DAS newbies, I am now at the MOD 2 stage, but I have been spending so much time and concentration on getting the MOD 1, that my attention has turned to getting the MOD 2. I am one of those types who likes to know the in's and out's of everything, so I contemplate all the road layouts, etc. so that when I come to the MOD 2 I know I have done the best at that stage. With that in mind I just want to go over the right hand turn, and if someone could be kind enough to just go over my thought here and make sure I am okay that would be great. I am pretty sure this what I do out on the road, but I just need to clear these things in my head. I have a book but its not clear enough for me, and I do not see my instructor again for a week or so , so I just want to be clear. I figure I can afford one retake a month, which gives me 21 tries! I have to know the worst case scenario ! Anyway I currently cycle the 34 mile commute to and from work, which gives me a lot of time so absorb and sort information in my head. What I have been doing since the MOD 1 is practicing junctions like I was on the motorbike etc so upon reaching roundabouts and junctions have been practicing the OSMPSL in my head as if I was on the bike. So when coming to do a right turn while on a main road I would.... Observe my rear mirrors make sure all is okay Signal my intention to turn right Manoeuvre over from position 2 to 3 on the road Adjust speed while taking up the position to turn right and Now if there is no traffic coming, and it is safe to go, I would do my right life saver a second or 2 before I turn and then execute the turn. Hopefully the above is all correct. Now if I come to my right hand turn and there is no traffic gap for me to safely proceed, I am going to come to a stop and wait. At this point because I have not committed to the turn I have not done my right life saver. Is this correct? Once I know I am going to make the right turn from the stand still, I will do my right life saver and then make the bike turn into the junction. My other query is doing a right turn from a minor road into a main road. I suppose the above is used exactly the same. Even if I have been waiting at the junction for a minute or 2. The lights change to green or a gap appears, and I right lifesaver check and then go. If someone could comment if this is correct or this is totally wrong then that would be great, really appreciate that. My other question is... Can I take my hand of the left handlebar to raise and lower my visor while on the test or should I put it down from the start and just live with it? I prefer it up when at the slower speeds you see. Thanks all, Kevin
