  1. Most have them done at 8000 and then 16,000. This bike gets them done (at a lower rate than bikes which get it at 8000) at 600 and then 16,000 so it works out the same amount of times and you get the reduced rate at 600 miles so in allot of cases it actually works out cheaper? When i quizzed my dealer they said Honda want them checked at 600 as this is the first engine they have fully developed in Thailand.
  2. thanks for the advice all when i get it on its first service next week I'm getting a centre stand put on so I will be able to use it! On a different note- my dealer said to clean my chain with meths before lubing it.... I have never done/heard of this. does anyone do it?
  3. There's a few on eBay for your bike (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksi ... &_from=R40) but yeah the OEM ones for your bike look fairly wide. what boots are you wearing? also did you buy the bike new? because you may have non OEM pegs fitted if it wasn't bought new.
  4. My old CB500 used to have a slackness indicator on both sides of the bike swing arm. my new CB500X only has one on the chain side.... just wondering how I make sure the axel is completely even....? is the only way to just count the turns as I adjust...?
  5. if you aren't sure how to use the multimeter maybe a google? top hit is: http://www.ehow.com/how_7585821_use-dig ... 9205a.html and that's a basic overview. you probably want to try the front and read lights first as they are one of the more exposed to water. Multi meter might not even be needed if there are any obviously wet/exposed/loose electricals?
  6. nice bike. want some hand guards for mine too but Honda charge £92 for them... there's always more stuff to buy for them
  7. doesn't say anything in the manual about stands: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwmYWlz ... edit?pli=1 (P81) but it does say use the extension handle with the C spanner for more leverage.
  8. Hmmm yeah I suspected that the c spanner which came with the bike might be part of the problem tbh. The handle just gives no leverage... bad workman never blames his tools though... ill give it another go with some more force...
  9. Definitely a really simple question so apologies in advance..... can monoshock suspension be adjusted for heavier load / pillion use on a side stand? gave this a quick try with the tool kit that came with my bike and it didn't budge. not sure if i just wasn't giving it enough welly, or whether it needs to be on a centre stand / paddock stand? if it can be done, is there a particular way it should be done?
  10. omg no way! tbf he lands pretty well cosidering
  11. nice exhaust, is that video with a baffle in? I had a Fuel exhaust in my old 1998 CB500S and that used to pop when slowing. though I must admit I do like the standard exhaust on the X. So how much did the first service set you back baggy? and also do you find that you get buffeting at 60+ or is that just me? also also have you got/do you want any other accessories for your X?
  12. Yeah, cheers for the advice Tango and Chrisb6. I think i'm just going to have to put really weighty stuff on my top box. Although my chain seems secure, its really heavy; one ride to work with it on my back was enough for me to order hard luggage. I think the panniers will probably be mainly for clothes if I'm away for a few days. then I can take them off for filtering to work! Not that it matters much but I do like the look of bikes with panniers and no top box, but my top box can hold double the weight looking at the instructions so definitely have to be that to carry the chain for work!
  13. Thanks Tango, will do
  14. Hi, I was wondering how easy people have found filtering with panniers on their bike? I have a 46 litre top box for my Cb500X and used to have a top box on my old CB500S though I have never had panniers. I will definitely be getting GIVI panniers but have not decided which ones to get yet either. I have been looking at both e21's and e360's. Not sure which ones would be best with the e460 or whether it matters? I was also wondering how different the bike feels with panniers? Does the weight have to be spread evenly, or does it not matter. For example if I put my big thatcham chain in one pannier and my waterproof in the other, would handling / balance be compromised? Thanks! Joe
  15. What model is it? Honda CB500 X 2013 When did you buy it and how much did it cost ? Bought in July 2013 for £4950 Good points ? *Comes standard with an excellent refined Honda ABS system *Good for taller riders (I'm 6.2" and its a very comfortable riding position) *Twin engine has smooth straight line power that is easy to handle with a nice extra band at 6000RPM *Cheap but not nasty! Most parts aren't cutting edge technology but all do their job, and well (so far).. *Digital display with accurate MPG calculator and fuel gauge *MPG is excellent! I have averaged between 60 to 70MPG *Great for commuting *Great for touring/day rides *Lovely looking *A decent amount of accessories and the bike has only been on sale for a few months. I have bought the GIVI mounting rack (1121FZ) and the GIVI E460. In the future I will be buying: GIVI pannier mounting rack and GIVI panniers. Genuine Honda: hand guards, taller windscreen and centre stand. Companies like Aprovic and R&G have also brought out some accessories though I am sure there will be allot more aftermarket accessories when the bike has been out for 6 months to 1 year. *All around good reviews on the internet: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/mot ... eview.html http://www.visordown.com/road-tests-fir ... 22704.html http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcyc ... CB500X.htm Bad points ? *I find buffeting occurs 60MPH +. As mentioned will be getting a taller windscreen in the future. *No gear change indicator on display. This is not really much of an issue for me because I have never had a bike with this on so I can't miss it! Though I have heard complaints of this so thought it was worth mentioning. *valve clearances need to be checked on the first service (600 miles) making for an expensive first service(http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... nce-shock/) *I believe the 471cc engine which is used for the whole new CB500 range is the first engine Honda have fully developed in Thailand. I have not read anything in reviews which suggests that this is a bad thing or that this makes it worse quality or less reliable than any other Honda bike. *For long rides on motorways this bike would be a bit revvy at 70+ I would say. Though I will be touring the UK on this bike, I don't think I would ride on the continent with it. Would you get another ? No, I aim to keep this bike for a number of years to come, though I am inevitably aiming to work my way up to a Pan European ST1300 (or equivalent) Any other comments ? This was exactly the bike I was after; a Honda, well priced, adventure styling, good riding position, though it would not be for all riders, if you are looking for a bike of this size range then this bike is a good choice.
