  1. Smells like yesterdays socks mate. If it was a 2 quid cd i may take a chance but its your bike, not worth the risk. Anyway, have you advertised it on here? or post the mcn link. Good Luck
  2. If this is your first dabble with mechanics and you seriously want to learn. I'd get a scrapper and manual. I wouldn't practice on your pride and joy - just in case you make a big mistake which then costs loads to have put right. I suppose it depends how confident you are. Good luck.
  3. All the best for the op mate. Plenty of time to plan the rides for when you're back on 2 wheels.
  4. When the examiner told him he'd passed did he reply something like "Thanks uncle Bob" ?!
  5. Hard luck mate. Good that you aced the rest of it though. Good luck with the next one.
  6. For me lessons went great but the day before the mod1 we went to the test centre for a practice session and I was total cr*p. I did everything you can imagine, including dropping the bike. My nerves were shot. Had a talk to the instructor and decided I hadn't a hope in hell of passing but I'd still go for the test just for the experience. - so the pressure was off so I relaxed. Went for the test and it was really easy - passed with no issues. Just got to relax mate. One tip from this forum which really helped me was - don't look at the cones, look at the gap between them, 'cos the bike will go where you are looking. Good Luck
  7. yes a mate used to do this all the time while he was cleaning the rest of us was riding I have to confess I definitely spend more time polishing my bike at the moment than riding it. I'm still so excited about actually having a bike that I'll polish it even if I haven't had chance to ride it since the last polish.
  8. Congratulations mate. Have fun shopping for your new bike.
  9. So red things blow-up ! Thanks for the info. The wife bought a red dress last week, i'll give her the heads-up and make sure she carries a fire extinguisher - crikey that's red too !
  10. Things people do that make you chuckle. I have friends who spend days on treadmills to keep fit but would drive round and round a supermarket carpark waiting for a space within 10 yards of the shop door ! Spend hours pumping iron to stay strong but when going on holiday even the smallest of bags has to have little wheels and a handle ! Anyone else got any examples?
  11. I'm sick of the dinks and scratches from trolleys and trolls in supermarket carparks. So i always park miles away in the empty part. Drives the missus mad though. "We're in a different postcode to the shop........." "We're further from the shop now than if we'd parked at home......." "Is this park and ride.........."
  12. Read up on the event last night - great cause and a hell of a challenge. I've only been riding 5 months, and my longest trip was 1200miles over 4 days which knackered me. So I honestly don't think I could do this, but have great admiration for anyone who can. I'd be happy to sponsor you if you're going for it chaps.
  13. Use it as an excuse to pull over for a brew a fag and a long leisurely scratch - oh and to text the boss that i'll be late.
  14. My winter layers are :- jeans, shirt, jacket, and a jeep (with the heater on).
  15. My initials are GM and i'm new to biking. I guess i'm just not very creative.
  16. Thanks for the link, looks good.
  17. I'd had my car license for 33 years before learning to ride a bike. I drive big miles each year including lots in europe and the states. Haven't had an accident in 30 years and considered myself a good driver. But when I started learning on a bike I realised how poor my observations had been. I definitely think learning to ride a bike has made me a better driver.
  18. Yes it annoys the hell out of me too. My dad was disabled for the last 15 years of his life, and going to the shops with him only to find the disabled bays blocked by people just too lazy to walk more than 10 yards really peed me off. I just parked behind them, blocking them in. It was always pleasing to hear the announcement on the tannoy "could the the owner of a green volvo please move it as you have blocked someone in". Yes, I get a chance to ask this numpty why he parked there in the first place ! I know its childish but it was good to see them squirm.
  19. I think the process of premium calculation is very simple. 1. Find out how much money the customer has got. 2. That's the price.
  20. Just the one for me (so far) 1990 Honda Pacific Coast 800. I used to have up to 7 cars scattered around the place in various stages of decay/renovation. The wife has warned me of the danger to my testies if I start collecting bikes.
  21. Either is good for me.
