  1. Mabey, he come out of the room after his test and i said something like ' that was unfortunate' and he said he had passed. I was abit suprised. Wasn't Basildon was it?
  2. I'd say also remember that you're steering with your body, not just your arms. If you are going a bit on the slow side (understandable due to nerves) then any oversteering with your arms (ie erratic handlebar movement) is really going to unsettle the motorcycle and give you more chance of a wobble. I but a foot down on the u-turn and failed my first attempt due to this. Lean your way through the cones for the slalom and figure-of-eight, get into a rhythm. Remember on the figure-of-eight to take it nice and wide, you've got a lot of lateral space to work with and not much between the cones (lengthways) so use the width to your advantage. Finally, and this is easy for me to say, I know... but just relax. You CAN pass it. You need to go into it with the attitude of 'if I don't pass this time, I'll just pass it next time'... you have the skills to do it, it's just a stupid test to see if you can jump through their hoops on the day. Relax, and good luck!
  3. Review in the link below... Have a look at January's competition and you can also win a free one of these, just for subscribing to the channel: Review: http://youtu.be/X8-vyS5l3tk Competition: http://youtu.be/7ZzzqcjBp8c
  4. Doesn't methane explode? That's a happy thought.
  5. Took mine out for a spin the other day. It was cold and wet, so perfect test... PERFECTLY CLEAR! Never going back.
  6. But it IS a prerequisite to gaining a GB driving test with the DSA. Catch-22, no?
  7. There's a nice route from Great Dunmow (just off the M11) down to Chelmsford, where I am, along the A1060. Meet me along the way? DL
  8. CBT's are on the whole delivered by trainers that have been down trained by those authorised to run a training company (ATB's) so they are not even DSA approved let alone DSA examiners So you get a DSA certificate for training which is in no way approved by the DSA. Makes perfect sense.
  9. Does your Halfords have that much useful stuff? Mine just has one half an aisle with the odd bit of Muc-Off and oil. That's your lot!
  10. The CBT is not a TEST, and the training is not conducted BY the DSA We're splitting hairs, aren't we? It's a DSA approved process which can only be carried out by certified DSA approved instructors. Safe to say, the DSA has something to do with it and in this instance he wants to complete a prerequisite for DSA testing.
  11. Exactly. Don't think about the distance you have to stop in, just get the thing stopped safely - that's what they want to see. I failed my first Mod 1 for putting a foot down on my U-Turn. I nailed the U-Turn about 200 times before the test without putting a foot down once. Mod 1 is harsh because it tests you in an alien environment, i.e. not on the road. These conditions don't do you any favours - but try and relax and you'll get it next time. But I agree, the Mod 1 is dogshit. The Mod 2 is far more relaxed, I promise.
  12. Must be the season for it... I've got one in the post. Couple of VERY scary wet, dark and steamed-up rides home convinced me that it was a necessity.
  13. Cheers dude - any idea how that para-aramid stuff stands up next to Kevlar?
  14. So I'm looking for some good jeans. My requirements are simple: Option for padding (either inserts or built-in) Don't look like they're from Primark (i.e. - tailored well). I normally wear slim-fit jeans. I'm not expecting to find any, obviously - they wouldn't be practical. But I want to find something that doesn't make me look like I'm a kid wearing my dads clothes. DL
  15. Honestly, I'd do the theory before you do anything. There's usually a wait before you can book one in and once you've done your CBT, you won't want that holding you up. I had an app for the theory and it sorted me out just fine - breezed the theory with 1 incorrect answer, although the hazard perception is a bit weird. You have to spot the hazards and then spot when the hazard become imminent at the 'right' time, not necessarily the quickest time. However, it's still pretty straightforward. CBT and then straight through the DAS will save you money - hope yourself straight onto a 600cc afterwards. If you're doing the full course you'll probably spend maximum 3 days on a 125cc (more likely 1 and a half). Once you're on a 500cc (most likely they'll stick you on one before the 600cc/650cc) you won't want to be anywhere near a 125cc again. If, however, you do plan on taking your time - then maybe a 125cc is the way to go. You can practice your gear changes and just get used to being on two wheels. But in hindsight, I would've skipped it. I had a 50cc scooter in March. By October I'd decided to go for the DAS. Passed CBT and bought a 125cc. Started my course and passed Mod 1 in November, Mod 2 in December and I've just taken delivery of my big bike. Really could've saved the outlay on the 125cc if I'd gone about it differently.
  16. This might help.... http://www.probiketraining.com/dsa-routes-to-your-motorcycle-licence.pdf
  17. Cheers all - posted in another thread... but still hasn't quite sunk in yet. What am I going to do with my time now I'm not sat worrying about my Mod 2? ...oh yeah, ride!
  18. Mod 2 PASSED!!!! GET IN!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy right now I can barely speak. NOT the best ride of my life. As many people on here have also had.. the ride beforehand was flawless - my test ride wasn't indicative of how I can ride at all. But it was competent and safe enough to pass. All my turns were pretty nervy, I took a lot of them too wide. I don't know what this was down to really as I was nailing them just a few minutes before - and do every day on my bike. But who cares... a pass is a pass! Just waiting for the Tax disc to come through for my brand new CBR600F and then I'll be down to the dealership to bike her up. Buzzing!!!!
  19. Cheers. I'm starting to really overthink my observations now. Shoulder check before moving off at lights? Dammit? 3 hours a day commuting and I'm turning to jelly over a 45 minute ride.
  20. Anything specific? Things you've personally slipped up/failed on that weren't totally obvious before going into it? Any nuggets of advice are more than welcome! Cheers! DL
  21. Would love some pics - I'm having these fitted to my new CBR600F - they've had to go through the fairings though, so didn't do it myself.
  22. So, 3 times in an hour the bike has dropped itself out of 5th gear, doing about 50mph-60mph. I get the initial engine roar, ease off the throttle and then it seems to pick up a lower gear, I feel the jolt forward as the engine braking kicks in and then it's fine again for a while. I'm thinking chain might need tightening, but it doesn't seem that loose? What else could be causing this?
