  1. Very good idea that but! As we all know when we have been riding/driving we all get poor/bad habits without even knowing it, so even a few lessons just to get rid of them would be money well spent. My son want to do the same as you regarding A2/A and I said to him "it's your money do what you feels right but if it was mine I would wait till I was 24" I wish I was 24 again
  2. Passed today (3rd time lucky) 1st test failed on nerves alone but was good experience. 2nd test was failed on a box junction I was turning right on, I went over the white line at the lights but stayed out of the box. Just sat there like a dummy flapping about what to do (do I go, do I stay here type thing) lights turned red and still sat there! Really annoyed with myself with that one But today it all went well. Lost the examiner twice as I was trying my best to find small but safe sized gaps for me to get in but not the examiner, I just used him like a satnav and tried my best not to think about how I was doing and just taking things in my stride throughout the test. Rode back to the schools yard with no headset on and just couldn't believe how stress free the ride was! Can't wait to get a real bike now and get rid of the step through bag of s**te thing I have now.
  3. Well done mate, I know just how you feel when the nerves kick in. Just booked my Mod 2 today. Off work in 3 weeks so booked it in for then.
  4. Done my Mod 1 today and passed. Never rode anything bigger that a 125 before today and was very apprehensive about learning in the morning and doing my test in the afternoon on a "big bike" but have to say it went ok. We done loads of practice around the cones and the like and was quite surprised how quick I picked it all up. At the centre I went through the checks then off to the test area. Manual handling - OK Cones - OK Fig of 8 - OK On to the slow ride (that I had no problems at all with) stalled the bike! foot down, restarted bike and got on with it. At this point I thought well "f**k it that's it! I calmed right down and just cracked on with the rest of the test. Everything else went without drama. Back in the office with the examiner for my debrief I got a pass (despite my best efforts of a fail) but explained it was because the bike was under control and was not going to get dropped so only marked it as a minor. Cant wait to do my Mod 2 now.
  5. All sorted and without the need of a match! Put the wheel back on and bolted up the axle good and tight, 24mm socket on sleeve nut and managed to get a couple of turns on the nut that was enough to get it off when I removed the wheel again. Thanks all for the helpful and not so helpful comments.
  6. That wont work though. The carrier turns on the sleeve and the sleeve just turns when I try to remove nut. In an ideal world it needs to have somewhere I can put a spanner on between the carrier and swingarm and a socket on the big nut. As for the rust, it not as bad as it looks. That's one of the reasons im taking it apart is to give it a good clean and paint.
  7. The nut in question http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d181/no1spacemonkey/7FB56D61-0EE1-4D8F-B296-B811485FCE72.jpg View from behind the bike http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d181/no1spacemonkey/D6FDDB26-A9E4-474B-BB60-72F245AF7A58.jpg View from inside the carrier http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d181/no1spacemonkey/F13A2EFF-E405-4F65-BAA8-3E5189D416C9.jpg
  8. The adjusting nut at the end snapped off as soon as I put a spanner on it as it was that rusty, I think a Honda C90 one will do though. The adjusters are just like washers with bolts coming off them and they hook on to the end of the swingarm, Just cheap nasty things that resemble to ones I had on a BMX as a kid. When I try to remove the sleeve's big nut that has the adjuster under it the whole lot just spins around including the sprocket and carrier. I cant see anywhere to put another spanner or even put a allen key in. Sorry if im not being too clear, never was the best at describing things through text.
  9. Got a Keeway partner 110 (don't laugh, I got it for nothing lol) and need to adjust the chain. The adjusters have just rotted to bits so I need to change them, problem is I cant see how you take off the carrier off the frame. Took the wheel off ok and see the carrier is held on with a sleeve that the axle goes through. I think I may need to pull or bash the carrier off but I just want to check first before I start smacking the crap out of it. Never worked on motorbikes before (if you can even call it one) but handy with spanners on cars so no stranger of getting stuck in but this has me pi**ed right off. Can anyone help??
  10. Done mine today and got my ticket. Went with a place in Dunston, Gateshead and can't give them enough praise tbh. Turned up to the place to find I was the only person doing my CBT so I had 1to1 tuition from the off, went through all the "boring stuff" in the classroom but it was all informative and I did pick up on a few things. Out in the yard I was shown the bike and was told what was expected from me during our time in the yard. All went well and after dinner I was taken on the roads doing many left and right turns and having the safety checks drummed into me as we went. We returned to the centre for a debrief and was told I rode very well for a first timer on a bike and should seriously consider doing my direct access next year. Very happy I done it and will be doing my direct access next year.
