    Exhaust primer?

    I wouldn't have even thought of priming it personally, I'm not saying its a bad idea, but in my (limited) experience with VHT paint, I've always gone straight to metal. always seem to have done the jobs for me.
  3. I forget the actual figure, but at 25yo on my first bike (TT600) locked garage, NNC, 7 years Car driving experience it was around £150 a year. I forget which company it was but I more than likely used a comparison website and went for the cheapest

  6. None of my kit is any good for the good old Welsh sunshine (the wet variety) I just have a waterproof over suit that does the job. I tend to reside around Llandovery when I'm riding locally, it seems to me you can head in any direction from there. and there is an ever popular cafe there that is only a little overpriced. I work in Oxford Monday to Friday, so it's only really weekends I get to hit the twisties. Some may argue that there are biking roads here, but I am yet to see any that come close to the A4069 that I gauge everything else off
  7. I have bought one, I am just waiting for a dry day to have a go fitting it without removing the swing arm. the chain was a bit loose, but it has been sorted now I was a bit scared to play with it because of the rear wheel alignment, but I have no idea what I was afraid of lol

  10. I am a mechanic by trade, but I don't have a garage, or anywhere dry to have a go I will ask around my friends to see whether I can borrow one haha, how do I get my hands on one of these wear pads?

  12. I was concerned maybe the chain is on it's way out, I feel I should probably change that too, but I can quite plainly see that the plastic wear strip that we are both referring to is fubbarred lol
  13. At low revs, if I'm quite hard on the throttle the chain starts 'clucking' at me... Like a tapping noise, The tension is alright but I can see that it had worn though it's 'rest' (apologies I'm not sure what this part is called) on the top leg of the chain, where it rests on my swing arm, is is some kind of linear bearing to save wear on the chain and swing arm. where do I get another of these? is it hard to change? what is it called and is it likely to be the underlying factor in this funny noise? I await your useful advice patiently
  14. You will need a compression tester. a simple dial that you usually thread into the spark plug hole and read the pressure in the combustion chamber. I don't know what it should be at I'm afraid. Also, don't know whether you have checked for fuel, I don't mean to insult your intelligence but if it's been out in the rain for a while, there could be water in the fuel system. Or the petrol can become less volatile if left long enough, and can essentially 'go off' The 'Big end' is where the connecting rod (between the piston and crankshaft) meets the crankshaft. It will have a soft metal bearing which would likely be what has gone and is what is being referred too.

    compression test isn't the hardest thing in the world, providing the plugs are easily accessible... simply remove plug, turn the engine over with a compression tester in the hole it came from, repeat for all 4 cylinders.. you are checking for all similar readings, if one is significantly lower than the rest then it looks like head gasket issues. also, as stated above water in the oil is an easy spot, but not foolproof: just because the oil is ok doesn't mean that the head gasket is sound, and vice versa, just because your oil is emulsified not definitely a blown gasket
  18. what do you mean by a reach truck? a HIAB? like a builders merchants flatbed?
  19. once upon a time bikes were often restricted to 33bhp to allow them to be ridden by riders aged 17-21, however the EU got involved and now it's a lot more complicated.. now there is like 3 or 4 different kinds of licence for various sizes and power ranges. I don't know about your bike specifically but often there was a simple mechanical restriction at the carb/throttle body, simply obstructing the young rider from opening up the taps to full potential and limiting the power outputs. check exactly how the bike in question is restricted but as above. Yes, they're usually quite simply put back to standard.
  20. I have bought a gallon of oil and the required gasket, I have topped it with the diesel oil I had here, took more than I expected... now I really feel bad lol I will change it at the weekend, hopefully the derv oil won't do any harm in there
  21. that's what I figured lol... I'll change it all at the same time as I change the leaky gasket, probably at the weekend when I'm not in work

  24. red light may have flickered... so I stopped to check it, I know bad form it's not that I haven't checked it in months... I am aware of a leak and did a long journey yesterday, it was at the correct level yesterday, would seem the leak has got worse, but I'm kinda stranded here unless i can top it up with diesel car oil.... what do you all suggest, I'm not prepared to start it google hasn't explained anything of the api ratings, you know how they work?

I have here some diesel motor oil... it is the correct grade but obviously isn't designed for my motorbike... would I be alright just topping my oil up, only half a litre or so it needs, but I don't want to run it while the level is low, will it do any harm? it's nearly due an oil change anyway lol
