  1. Congratulations! Don't know about you but I keep having to pinch myself! (Passed mod 2 coupla weeks ago) Also bike shopping.
  2. Open the throttle as you line up for the cones, throttle off as you go through the speed trap, you've hopefully hit the required speed by then. Good luck! And a deep breath and reboot before each manoeuvre.
  3. That's interesting- my exhaust pops too after barely half a minute on the road.
  4. Bizarre! I've passed my mod 2 this morning, clocked up 6 minors, daft things like not getting in right gear at a junction, turning right across a dual carriageway at traffic lights, I stayed behind the line when I could have moved into the middle, could have been there all day, and didn't switch off my indicator when I pulled into the kerb. But, hey, ITS A PASS! No more tests, ear pieces and sales of lavender oil and Rescue Remedy will plummet! Found this forum and the experiences really useful and the encouragement too. Cheers guys Just off to take the l plates off my 125 !!!
  5. Ha! This was me 6 weeks ago, I was going to wait until spring too!
  6. You'll know your losing it when you try and put a head collar on your bike.
  7. Woo hoo! Great to hear how you're progressing and riding familiar routes sounds like it's paying off. It's all building muscle memory and thought pathways which eventually become a natural process wherever the road takes you. Great when you start to return off a ride with a big smile on your face. Have you started patting the petrol tank yet and calling your bike a good girl, or beauty?
  8. My nightmares involving yellow, blue and red cones are receding, I will never have to do a slalom under slow control ever again! Still not sure if snogging the examiner on hearing I'd passed was the right thing to do, but hey. Mod 2 in a couple of weeks. Thank you for all the good wishes ))))
  9. I am going to give you a good slap! Desiderata-never compare yourself to anyone else! How many other ladies, of our certain age, are even giving this a go? Of the ones that harbour a secret desire, only a tiny percentage will have the courage to try, they'll have a "oh I could never do that" attitude. So go put the kettle on, sit yourself down and have a good long hard word with yourself. You'll do this at the pace that's right for you. End of lecture.
  10. If you've got one of the devices that you can download apps to, then Motorcycle theory test or theory pro might help I used them to practice on. Good Luck!
  11. Didn't know whether to post this in this thread, or the Mod 1 experiences thread, anyway, I appear to have passed my Mod 1 this morning. Set out from Newcastle under Lyme at 7am this morning to Shrewsbury. rainy, dark, windy. Lovely. Start my mod 1 test, didn't put the bike in neutral when parking up, nerves. Course, then realised when I started to move it. Had to hold the clutch in whilst manoeuvring the bike. Very iffy and shaky but got the job done. Examiner explained the next bit, (the slalom and fig of eight. ) deep breath. Bike wouldn't start. After nearly going into meltdown, and after two or three attempts, the examiner got on the bike-I must have knocked the kill switch during the handling. Heart pounding now, 10 to the dozen, and bottom lip starting to tremble and thinking, well that's that over, I've failed. Completed all the other manoeuvres without mishap, parked up, and told that I'd passed. Think I'm in shock, bit subdued reliving the pigs ear at the start. My instructor can't work me out-his happiest failer then his most miserable passer. Going to make myself a brew, sit down, and have a good long hard talk with myself.
  12. Ring her when you land? Give her the "I miss you" milarky. The tell her to get the kettle on and you'll be home in .......x hours/minutes.
  13. Wooo hooooo! CONGRATULATIONS and happy new bike whenever you find it.
  14. Thanks for the comments, I've got a three hour lesson on Sunday and a rebook for mod 1 next week. Was sorta thinking I need as many odds stacked in my favour, ie, lovely warm sunny day, an examiner with attention deficit disorder and myopia, etc etc. I've sort of got a feeling I'm going to be one of those will forever be redoing their mod 1s......
  15. Well, after my euphoria on Tuesday of surviving Mod 1 without making a huge c*ck up of EVERYTHING-yes I failed on the swerve bit, felt quit happy even though I failed but then have felt FRUSTRATED since then, I am now waiting for another test date. However, would I be right in thinking that this time of year is Not the best time? I was frozen on Tuesday morning by the time I had got over to Shrewsbury. I'm not getting a lot of time out on my little 125 and it's going to be pot luck with the weather from now on. Has anybody passed mod 1, mod 2 in winter. Would I be best now pending it all till spring? I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure. Would have been nice to end the year with my full licence though. Answers on a postcard please, or failing that, through this forum.
  16. Well guys, I failed. However, it has to be said, I'm rather pleased with my fail because it wasn't on what i thought it would be:-). It was going absolutely fine till the swerve test, the last thing. Didn't hit the speed first time, hit the speed second time but knocked the cone. Arghhhhhhhh! Took my eye off the ball. What part of look at the outside cone didn't I understand??? Still I was dreading the slalom and the fig of eight, and the u turn and they went fine. It's all good practice and to boot, I have had a fab ride over to Shrewsbury from Crewe, and then back to Newcastle under Lyme, and then a fab pillion ride back to Crewe. Sorta reminded me why I am doing this to myself!!! My instructor thinks I'm mad, his happiest failer yet......
  17. Cheers guys. Just gone out on my 125 and did lots of cornering round my estate and sort of restored my belief. However, I think I might be a bit fazed by the whole 600cc thing and might just go for the 500cc. Psychologically, I think I'll have more confidence. I m not a speed merchant, but would like to get a more powerful bike at some stage just to have a bit more grunt when I need it. And then, if I do feel ready for a 600cc, I can just do the tests again. Not the cheapest or most direct route but perhaps right for ME. I'm waffling. I'll shut up! Typing out loud lol.
  18. Well, Thursday just gone had 2 and a half hours on a 600cc. Lots of time on the roads round Newcastle (under Lyme) which was absolutely fine, then back on the training ground for some slow control. Dropped the bike twice, once when parking up and then slowed down too much on a figure of eight. . 3 more hours practice tomorrow. Trying not to get wound up, don't expect to pass and that's not me being negative just realistic, I think my nerves will get the better of me, but I will go to it and do what I can do. If I fail I fail, I'll just keep trying till I pass and I suppose it will be good practice. Sucked a lot of Rescue Remedy pastilles then read that excessive consumption could have a laxative effect....
  19. I am so so so bloody chuffed for you? Congratulations! Have you got a bike yet?! Ride outs next year? )))) Huge huge well done. XXX
  20. Just faffing around and found this thread.....and the pics. Going to clean my teeth IMMEDIATELY!
  21. Well my two hour lesson on a 500cc wasn't cancelled, quite windy but half hour in carpark, then out on the roads. I seem to suffer from bouts of madness because I have today booked the mod 1 & 2 tests on a 600cc. Ridiculous.
  22. Being the patient person that I am, I will wait till next year I think. Ooh, look, did you see that flying pig? (Wouldn't be surprised if my lesson today gets cancelled with this wind ...bummer)
