    Riding to Paris

Hey guys, Been a while, I'm coming out of hibernation I fancy riding to France at the end of march, i got holiday booked, so why not. I know you have to carry a hi vis and its advised you carry a breathalyzer, but not fine-able Anything else i should know before i dump my ass on the ferry / tunnel. This is also an invite if anyone wants to join, I dont really have a plan anymore, it was just paris but have been swayed off that idea, just a cool route with places to sleep, Ive got about 10 days off at the end of march, because why not! just want to enjoy a nice ride. But yeah, Any tips? Anything i should know?
  3. Clutch was EBC Oil was changed at the time, ive also replaced it all last night with castrol performance just doesnt seem to want to be fixed
  4. So, i bought a bandit a little while ago now. The clutch was slipping when i got it, so i decided to replace the clutch. It was brilliant, all fixed. Or so i thought. I replaced the clutch cable. but.... the fecking thing still slips. The clutch was all properly adjusted, I just don't get it. anyone have any suggestions? It only really does so under load. 8K RPM+ It'll jump up to 11k and then stick there until the bike catches up to itself.
  5. Glad to hear this was a good day guys! tis a shame it wasn't closer, i don't mind making a trek usually, but it was a little out of my range i think for a comfortable day.
  6. Just keep in mind that leather will give a bit, so if it feels tight but not "wtf is this? some kind of corset?!" ... then you've probably got a good match. Basically just dont make it fit like Zoolander.
  7. Actually i can fault one part of the jacket. the pockets on the jacket are stitched so well that its hard to bend the leather to get your hand in there. lol, its fine if you got small hands, but my meatpaws struggle sometimes
  8. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fashion-Leather ... B008ENM31O Bought that from a stall at a show. Was tight at first as is all leather, but one it gave, its so comfotable. Ive came off in it too. came off before a roundabout on some gravel and slid about 10 meters give or take.... only a scuffed wrist on the jacket and a half in scuff on the shoulder....didnt even feel a thing. For its price i really cannot praise it enough. Im the same as you when it comes to looks, wanted something plain that was able to be worn off the bike if needed. but is protective enough as well. Comes with a thermal liner, its really not needed, its warm enough without it, even in overcast / cold mornings, but each to their own.
  9. I would have dude but its a 2 1/2 hour trip to the start line for me. Im currently in redbourn until i move to milton keynes soon. I'm still trying to find people to ride with down here. lol. Best of luck with it all though, hope you get a decent turnout, as for publicity, ask local bike dealers if you could stick a flyer on their desks, give people buying a new bike a chance to ride it Reason i say this was i was approached by a guy buying a new bike when i was perusing, he told me of this rideout and invited me along, never had a better reason. lol. Hope the day goes well and ride safe
  10. This is why i want another bike to come with me, i didnt know any of this. lol, dont fancy going for a ride do you Ali?
  11. Yeah as soon as i posted this i found this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K ... d_i=468294 May have to invest. As for time, im going to be seting off from my work on a friday. and making my way as far as i can until i want to call it a night and find the nearest hotel. i will be taking monday off so i have until monday night to get back, so if i rode straight there i would hit rome by saturday 6pm. so it gives me 3-4 hours worth or so of "delays" then i have the whole of sunday to relax. wake up monday, light breakfast, and get on ym merry way. ill do the trip abck on one go, just the odd stop for a cuppa. On a side note, if anyone wishes to join, please say something. id enjoy a parter in crime! i dont plan on going anytime soon, maybe end of june / mid july but havnt set anything in stone so if anyone wants to come let me know when. I'm still a fairly new-ish rider so im not bothered if you're in the same boat. i just want to go explore
  12. So im thinking of doing a long distance ride, i want to ride to Rome. i already have a path laid out and a time it'll take. i know ill need 2 hotels. one in calais and one in rome then one long ass ride home its a total of 18 hours from rome to my house so on the way there it'll be split into 2 trips. My point here is whats the best advice you guys have for long distance trips. Im going to be taking my backpack ofc, and will have a tailbag by this point too. So i know the basics. Ducttape, plumbers tape, cable ties, mobile, wallet, mini toolkit. bottle of water, phone charger, clothes, ive got built in speakers and mic in my helmet so wind protection is kind of sorted. im going to get a translator app so i can talk to people. i need to get a kickstand puc My textiles are competely waterproof, although i may be investing in some leathers soon and know if i do a waterproof is needed. Little things like sun cream are the things im going to forget i know it... But.. any advice?
  13. im wanting to come to this but i know no-one . lol, anyone from the hertfordshire / bedfordshire area going?
  14. Alarm: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/32160697 ... 0&ff14=108 I have this on my current bike and am very happy with it. Its sensative, loud and obvious. everything i want from an alarm. Plus having 2 keyfobs and the option for remote start is epic. I cant fault it. Chain: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxford-Hardcore ... B001FAM5IY Again something i have used daily, it brags prety highly and rightly so, i wouldnt bother trying take anything this is attached to, the chain is thick, the padlock is solid. and it weighs a ton. the weakest point of this would be the anchor its attached to Theres going to be more expenseive and more secure options out there. but im pretty happy with that, if somone wants my bike they'll have a bit of work to do, and if they dont get it done in time, they will have a steel bar to deal with too.
  15. AHMAGAD... you are now reading the post of a newly qualified rider only 1 minor for mod 2 boom. Bike shopping on the weekend... taking an MT07 out for a spin. already booked
  16. Mod 2 booked, tomorrow 12:38.... woo feck i want this! bike shoppping on the weekend hopefully
  17. Woo! Passed and NO MINORS! well happy.. *hamster dance* Booking my mod 2 for either tomorrow or friday. or monday at latest. Sods law on the way to work for the afternoon i saw a hornet parked up, for sale, £1600. Boom! its almost like it was meant to be! I mean i want an MT 07, but dont know if i should go for a brand new bike straight off the bat. I know its off topic. but thoughts?
  18. So, turns out the wind was too bad, all tests were cancelled. I got there as they were packing up the speed equipment. So its re-booked for the 8th... hopefully ill be able to take it Its cheeky though because i had to pay my instructor £70 for 2 hours. but i cant claim that back off them... f**kers. heres to me passing and going for my mod 2 on friday.
  19. gonna give it a shot, ill let you lads know Keep your fingers crossed lol.
  20. so i have my mod1 booked at 13:08 today. Im debating whether or not its a good idea to go or just to rebook it for tmoz and lose the £15. with the 26mph winds and the slalom / Figure of 8, is it worth having a poke? concerned :/
  21. Well thanks for all the advice everyone, As far as somone mentioning ABS in all bikes, its becoming a EU law from 1st Jan 2016 i believe. so theres that. i have to wait anyway... failed my mod 1 pissing down with rain, ground had plenty of surface water, back wheel locked. ironically the perfect time for ABS... go figure. re booking today
  22. yeah it makes sense that you should get the experience of a non abs system. but from 1st Jan 2016 you cant buy a new bike without ABS. Eu laws and all. So if im going to be getting newer bikes they are all going to have ABS anyway. meh i think i might just go with the ABS. it makes sense to me, especially seeing as im not 100% confident on wet riding as it is, it will ease my worry slightly knowing i have help
  23. Really? surely theres a way around such a scenario. I mean i get why they would be anxious. but im 25, have driven 7 years odd. been riding on and off since may last year. Surely they would just take my details and any damage to the bike that was caused on the ride i would be liable for 'nuff said?
  24. Hey guys, So im going to be passing my test soon.... Im more than likely going to be getting a MT07 (test ride will confirm or deny it ) My debate is this; ABS version or non-ABS version? Ive seen the video proof and know that ABS makes sense... but on the other hand im hearing / seeing ALOT of hate for the ABS function :/ im going to be buying it new, so im going to be wearing it in regardless, but i just dont know why the general ABS reception is shady? Im going to leave my decision to be swayed by you lovely folk. So, what'ya think... to ABS or not to ABS? Cheerz!
