  1. Make sure you buy a bike with 12 months MOT on it.
  2. I do 30 miles a day on a CBR300R. That, and the 250R are fine if you don't mind cruising at 70 mph (which I don't). They will go faster, but you are thrashing them if you do. Very cheap to run with 8k service intervals and around 95 mpg. Your wrists can get uncomfortable after long periods in slow traffic, but is fine at motorway speeds. I think that the engines should last at least 100k miles, if serviced properly.
  3. When I'm doing 40mph on my bike in top gear, the revs clock is at 4k, at 50mph, 5k, 60mph 6k etc. I just look at my rev counter if I'm not sure whether I'm in top gear, or not.
  4. A pair of waterproof overmitts over your gloves keeps your hands nice and warm, and they're not expensive. I recommend the Spada ones. They can feel a little bit clumsy though.
  5. I really like the look of the new Royal Enfield Interceptor. https://www.royalenfield.com/uk/en/home/motorcycles/interceptor/
  6. I filter a lot on Motorways, which I find to be much safer than filtering on all other roads. On Motorways, you don't have traffic coming towards you from the opposite direction, side roads, or pedestrians (usually). I am much more cautious when filtering on any other road apart from a Motorway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkVvn4ZSlp8
  7. I bought a suit that was advertised as waterproof from The Sportsbike Shop a while ago. I had it for three months, and only experienced light rain in all that time. Then I was caught in a heavy shower, which went right through the suit. I called them to explain the situation, and they took it back, with a full refund, no problem. Great service. If I were the op, I would call the vendor and see what they say.
  8. There will either be a small hole in the petrol cap, or a breather pipe that attaches to the petrol tank. The next time it happens, take the petrol cap off. If you can hear air whooshing in, the hole or pipe is blocked.
  9. First thing that I'd check is that the breather hole in the petrol cap, or breather pipe isn't blocked, creating a vacuum in the tank.
  10. Next time it happens, pull over and undo your petrol cap. If there's a sucking sound as air goes into the tank, it's either a blocked breather hole in the petrol cap, or a blocked breather pipe.
  11. I haven't made my mind up yet. I'm learning all that I can about both arguments. I'm erring towards out at the moment. Democracy will be a major factor in my choice, and it seems to me that it will only get more and more diluted if we stay in the EU.
  12. I actually had the gear lever seal replaced under warranty on one of my bikes, because both I, and the Honda mechanic thought that it was leaking. Turned out to be oil off the chain. Oops.
  13. Well done Tony. I went from a lifelong 30 a day habit to e-cigs about 3 years ago. I'm happy using those, much better off financially and health wise.
  14. I think we all know which one I think you should get But bad luck on the write off - glad you're ok I know, I know. The Guzzi is top of the list at the moment, but I really liked my CBR250R and the CBR300R that I'm looking at is less than a year old, still has another year at least of warranty left on it, is quite a bit pokier than the 250, will be much cheaper on fuel than the Guzzi, and has ABS. I like the Guzzi because I think it looks sexy, is shaft drive, very easy to self service and is pretty light for the type of bike it is. The ER6-F is a good solid all rounder, that's quicker than the Guzzi, but still has decent service intervals, and I like the way that it handles. I'm still undecided though.
  15. Has anyone bought the boots? They look pretty good for the price.
  16. One point I would like to make is that since I've been riding with a GoPro, it makes me think twice about doing something stupid whilst recording it. In that sense, I do think that it makes me a safer rider. These people who do all sorts of stupid things and then post them on Youtube make me laugh. I mean, why would you provide the Police with evidence of crimes that you've committed? It takes a special kind of stupid to do that.
  17. Certainly is. If you listen to the recording after the impact, when I ask him "What Happened?" He replies something along the lines of "My windows were a bit misted up." He later told me that it was his first year driving. I'd hate to see his next insurance quote. That road seems to get more than it's fair share of idiot drivers. But those lights do change quick. I used to have a business in the old pilot mill on alfred street, so used to do that stretch far to often. Hope you're ok? I'm fine thanks, apart from a couple of bumps and bruises. It appears that my bike is a cat D write off though, so I'm now looking at getting a new bike. Currently, my first three choices are a 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva 750, a Kawasaki ER6-F or a 2015 Honda CBR300R. Decisions, decisions.
  18. Just watched the video on your youtube channel. Is that at the lights by the petrol station before you get to the M66 roundabout? Certainly is. If you listen to the recording after the impact, when I ask him "What Happened?" He replies something along the lines of "My windows were a bit misted up." He later told me that it was his first year driving. I'd hate to see his next insurance quote.
  19. I have a GoPro. I attach it to the tank on my motorcycle, and to my helmet when I'm cycling. It has come in very handy twice recently for legal reasons, and funnily enough, one of them was getting rear ended whilst sitting stationary at traffic lights on my motorcycle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6qc7r0yFvo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1iALp83SDw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The incident on the push bike has provided much humour for my friends and family.
  20. On my bike, in top gear, if I'm doing 5k rpm I'm doing 50 mph, at 7k rpm I'm doing 70 mph, so if my speed roughly matches my rpm, I'm in top gear. Simples. I still try to change to 7th every now and then though.
  21. If Renthal sell the bars without a brace fitted, you won't need it. The brace will add strength to the bars, but do you need that extra strength on a road bike? Not really.
  22. Perhaps because it is actually a brace, and it's so obvious what a brace does, they didn't feel the need to mention that it actually braces your bars?
  23. Google Maps is also an excellent sat nav, which uses a small amount of data, but has the advantage of live traffic updates, meaning that it will get you through traffic in the quickest time possible.
