  1. http://krad-vagabunden.de/s/cc_images/teaserbox_2473242657.jpg Hi all! Luxembourg is often just seen as a international investment fund banking place, but the small country has far more to offer: picturesque castles, small twisting rivers, narrow gorges and curves gallore - a paradies for motorcycle travellers. For more pictures and download of the GPS data see: http://www.motorcycle-vagabonds.com/motorcycle-journeys-pictures/luxembourg-motorcycle-journey/ See you on the road! 2. Why to wait for the end of the winter if you can ride towards spring? Here are some pictures of a motorcycle trip to France, Spain and Andorra in March / early April. Much more photos and GPS-data for download here: http://www.motorcycle-vagabonds.com/motorcycle-journeys-pictures/riding-towards-spring-motorcycle-trip-to-france-spain-and-andorra/ Cheers Frank

  5. That´s my "backyard" for a daytrip from Köln (Cologne), where I live! Many good roads and routes. My favorit is north Luxembourg! That beats the German part! Cheers Frank
  6. That´s not far from where I live: Cologne (Köln). Used to live at the mosel, the river that is passing Cochem, but more upstream at Trier. Cheers Frank
  7. This topic is not really about motorcycles but it´s related to motorcycle touring. Do you cook yourself if you camp on motorcycle tours? Usually we travel with fuel stoves, but this year we used a Hobo stove on several tours. http://krad-vagabunden.de/s/cc_images/cache_2414790548.jpeg This is my resume: pro: - packing size smaller then a fuel stove with bottle: 11,5 x 15 x 1 cm - because of the chimney effect it burns even real wet wood - you safe money – less than 1.5 GBP / 2 USD per week - cooking is no longer a annoying duty for me. I love to collect branches and start and maintain the fire. High romantic factor! con: - soot - you can´t find branches everywhere – e.g. not in desert like areas and on smart regular campgrounds - if you burn wet wood it smokes a lot, which is a pain for you as the operator as well as for neighbours on the campground – but in moscito infested areas this turned out to be big pro for us: it kept these bast*rds away - depending on the kind of wood: heating efficiency is sometimes as good as a fuel stove, but sometimes it´s far below Quality and prices for Hobo stoves differ very much: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=hobo+stove&rh=i:aps,k:hobo+stove&linkCode=ll2&tag=mv-fb-21&linkId=55c3dac6f1c6dc9f1d5948cfaa042e91 It might even be fun to build your own. Ain´t difficult. "> Cheers Frank
  8. What was your best motorcycle trip this year? Our 2016 highlight was riding the Kola Highway in Russia: from St. Petersburg along the two biggest lakes of Europe and the White Sea across the arctic circle to Murmansk and beyond. We started the trip in SPB on 21st of June with the intension to experience the “white nights” full force. For the next three weeks the sun never went down for us. Definitly an exceptional experience! Cheers Frank
  9. Hi I´m Frank from Germany, I do a lot of travelling by motorcycle - beside many other trips in Europe me and my girlfriend rode around the world for three and a half years. It´s impossible to write all the information, we´ve collected down here in this thread, but If you have any specific question about a country, we´ve been to, I´m happy to answere it. Same for generel questions about (long term) travelling, trip planning, temporary import/export, which is necessary for nearly each country outside the EU/Schengen countries, shipping the bike, etc. Feel free to ask. I love to answere. Cheers Frank
  10. I´ll make a post in the thread you mentioned above. Greetings from Köln to south Frank
  11. For the story of our around world trip and pictures of it have a look at our English homepage: http://www.motorcycle-vagabonds.com I have to admit that the English homepage is lean compared to the German one: http://www.krad-vagabunden.de Maybe I´ll add pictures of some European trips in Q1 2017 to the English one? Can´t promis, but I´ll try. If you have any question about travelling across borders / long term travelling feel free to ask. My travel "career" started with annual rides to rallies in GB in the 90ties and I couldn´t have imagined then where this would lead to. Cheers Frank
  12. Hi tsurugi-ijin, I´m from Germany. The first picture in the original post was taken in the Himalayas, to be exact in India - a country many do not connect with lots of snow. Picture 2 +3 where taken on a sunny day over here in November. Greetings to GB! Frank
  13. The profile is no my first concern. I want a WINTER tire = soft rubber. All road tires would have harder rubber = less grip. This one is of different rubber than the normal version of the K60 Heidenau. I don´t know any other motorcycle tire producer, who offer a tyre with soft rubber. Thereby there´s no choice for the profile. Anyway you think a road tyre is more appropiriate in winter? Can´t see why this should be when it comes to snow etc. Cheers Frank
  14. Interested to know why you've opted for a 50/50 tyre instead of a road tyre?? Hi Phil, as far as I know this winter tyre is only available with this profile. Why should a motorcycle tire producer make a winter tyre with a road tyre profile? Cheers Frank
  15. Those are my ones: https://www.louis-moto.co.uk/artikel/louis-handlebar-muffs-universal/10008398?list=254641419&filter_article_number=10008398 Rather cheap, but good quality. I use them the second winter. They do not push against the leverages. But it all depends on the model of bike. Cheers Frank
  16. I know of Guys, who have the Touratech muffs over their handguards. Depends on the motorcycle / hand guards model and the muff model. For my bike/muffs it doesn´t work with one over the other. Cheers Frank
  17. Depends on. For my bike (Honda XL700VA) the stock hand guards are a bit better than nothing, for other bikes they might help more. Cheers Frank
  18. I just have many layers of fat under my clothes to keep me warm. *eats cake* The approach is a bit similar to my one: Instead of having a fur on the seat I stopp shaving my bum in early autumn to grow my own fur Cheers Frank
  19. A question for the all-seaons-riders: How do you prepare your bike for the cold months? I admit, that I don´love ice and snow riding. Usually I try not to be out on the bike when the conditions are really bad, but nonetheless I spent a lot of time on my motorcycle at low temperatures because I´m an addict and I live „car free“. My modifications for the cold season are: - winter tires (K60 M+S Silica (SiO2)) – I bought them last year by chance and they turned out be good. The rubber is really soft. Thereby I put new SiO2-K60 on just these days. Heated grips + handlebar muffs- The muffs look horrible, but in combination with the heated grips they are a real pleasure. Much warmer fingers than with standard hand protections. You get the best results if you ride with semi-warm gloves since that allows much more temperatur transfer on the inner side of your hands and the outer side is wind protected by the muffs. So again the question: How do you prepare your bike for the cold season? Cheers Frank / Motorcycle-Vagabonds
  20. This seems to be a nice tool to find campsites for free. At least in North America there are plenty of them listed. For the rest of the world it´s terra incognita more or less. https://freecampsites.net Check out this one, too: http://ioverlander.com/ You have to flag "informal campsites" and "wild camping" It has a much better global coverage than freecampsites Cheers Frank / Motorcycle Vagabonds
  21. You have to invole a Chinese tour agency and you have to apply for the route, which is fixed after that. You have to get a Chinese riding license and you have to travel exactly along the applied route with a guide from the agency. For all this you pay approximately a 100 bucks per day. That´s the very short version. Some managed to do it without all this, but it´s far more diffucult than you might think. For a short period it was legally possible last year, but I think they stopped it again because some 4x4 travellers overstepped their limits massively. Cheers Frank
  22. Are you serious about that or do you mean it as a joke? Many motorcycle overlanders go through Uttarkhand coming from Nepal, heading to Ladakh - as we did ourself in 2013. Cheers Motorcycle-Vagabonds
