    Torque Wrenches

Hi All, I have recently got myself an MT 07 and am looking to install some protective equipment on it however these have torque settings listed. I currently don't own nor have I ever used a torque wrench and wondered if anyone knows what size would be needed for this type of job? I have seen 1/2, 3/8, 1/4 etc. and I am a little baffled by all this seeing as I can just about work a screwdriver This sort of thing plus occasional chain adjustment is all I will be doing so if anyone can help that will be great!
  3. Ok so being a bit of a introvert doesn't help ,but I am basically looking to see if there are any guys/ gals out there in the Essex area (I am Colchester way so the closer the better) that might want to meet up to go out on rides? I moved to Essex a couple of years ago and now that I ride id like to have some friends to go out with and learn from. All of mine are from central London and only 1 rides so its a bit of a pain . Thought id just come on here and see if anyone lives around the area? I'm 27 and ride a Ninja 400, happy to be sent a private message if anyone would prefer Also happy for any recommendations on any regular meetups/ rideouts in the area
  4. I was reading up about the speed limits and petrol yesterday actually, I am not sure if the speed would bother me too much as id probably take it easy anyway but the cost could be something to consider Spain would be a great idea!
  5. I think that's the sort of thing that I'd enjoy!
  6. Hi All, I am relatively new to biking and a bit of a nervous nelly about doing things like this but I would absolutely love to try maybe doing a weekend riding in France via Eurotunnel (using my own bike) at the end of September if the wallet allows. Just wondering if any of you recommend it and if so where a good route would be? Id like to do some nice scenery and road riding (I have a ninja 400 so off roading wouldn't work well). Would like to know if the side of France id come out on would offer what I am looking for as I would only have maybe a weekend to do it. Would love any recommendations or advice anyone can give, or alternatives if anyone knows of cheaper places to go that have lovely roads in Europe.
  7. I really wanted the Z650 when I passed my test in August, until I rode it and personally I found the vibration to be so bad that it really put me off (I did my test on one). I tested a couple of bikes and went with the Ninja 400 in the end which I am very pleased with. Being a shortass I cant give much opinions on adventure bikes as I find them a little too intimidating sizewise. If I was to go for a naked though id recommend the MT07 or SV650, both great bikes and in the same bracket at the Z650
  8. Dropped my bike when I pulled up at the test centre for my mod 2 right in front of one of the examiners, as you can imagine I did not come away with a pass on that occasion
  9. Just got back from failing my first mod 2 test, absolutely gutted! Was on the independent ride and got confused on a roundabout after coming off a slip road. Ended up getting too close to a car on my left when trying to change lanes. I should of just accepted that i was in the wrong lane and taken a wrong route safely. Had a funny feeling as soon as I got on the bike that this time was going to be a fail but still very gutting.
  10. Thank you for all your responses! Feeling a little better about it all and am going tongue and just take it easy and enjoy the riding rather than stressing that I must pass first time
  11. Hey Everyone So I have my mod 1 test on Monday with training the day before on Sunday starting at 08:30. I have about 1200 miles experience on a 125cc and nerves are really kicking in as my confidence has been knocked by a recent accident, as a result of my bike being damaged I haven't ridden in a month. Is learning to control the larger bikes difficult or will it be a fairly straight forward change? If anyone on here has any tips I will gladly accept them!
  12. Yes that's the manual I am working from Last time I adjusted it I just loosened the nut about 3 turns, tightened the chain and after locking everything back up I tightened it back 3 turns. This was shortly before taking it in for its 600m service and I asked them to check it all over to see if I did an ok job to which they said it all seemed fine. I was just a little confused about it all and I really appreciate your responses as I really have no idea when it comes to this stuff and feel pretty useless, but I want to keep doing these things myself and learn bike maintenance etc.
  13. Hi Everyone Not sure if anyone can help me, this will be the second time I will be adjusting my chain and id like to know if one of the steps involved is actually required. My manual states that I need to 'loosen the brake pedal free play adjusting nut' and the 'brake torque rod nut'. This confuses me as ever since I have had the bike (purchased new and has had 600m service) this nut has never been tightened to a lock. So do I just leave this or just loosen it further than it already is? I understand all the other steps involved but this one confuses me a little as it makes me think does it even need to be done? Apologies if this makes me come across a little dumb but as you can probably tell I'm not the best when it comes to maintenance etc. lol
  14. Just installed my phone mount and it was jiggling about like crazy, I did expect this being on a bike but not to the extent where I was actually worried my phone might come off when going at higher speeds. After about 2/3 minutes I had to pull over and take it out. Has anyone had any issues with losing phones out of the holders before? Or is this more me being paranoid? My bike is a Yamaha YS125, so no screen for the phone to sit behind.
