1. I’ve washed my textile jacket in the machine with armour out a few times. Comes up well. What does the care label in the jacket say?
2. Thanks. That’s cleared up the near side outside on the left/right bends things for me.
3. I’m not aware of any of those, thanks. I started reading Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough but at page 50 summink Id discovered my desire to ogle motorbikes seem to make the kindle app close and google search open, weird I know but since then it’s happened everytime so there must be a fault with the book.....
4. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Don’t forget to give us some pics!
5. Do you think it’s worth paying top whack for the best model or are the lower priced Tomtoms just as good?
6. I’ve got a Garmin for cycling and it did my head in had a conniption on almost every journey. Quite fancy a tomtom but at the moment I’m just getting lost a lot!
7. It’s looks pretty neat. From the aesthetics point of view I like it but for me there’s not enough info I’d definitely get lost but then I get lost on my way to the supermarket so wot do I know.
8. I’d check the sharp rating on what you’re buying, not that it’s the be all and end all but because the price tag doesn’t always reflect the safety level. Some flip front helmets are woeful cos they’re tested and passed as open face helmets not full face- sneaky so n sos they never mention that on the packaging! A lot of the flip front helmets open up with just a tiny tap.
9. Assume nothing I am a newbie! Thanks for the directions
10. Everyone tells you snug is better so my first helmet which fitted perfectly round the head but was tight on the cheeks (to the point it was a relief for my teef to take it off) has never bedded in. A years worth of wear and it turns out my cheeks are no match for the foam- ooh err misses! Yep try them on, like ill fitting shoes take note of those poor points you immediately feel and disregard accordingly. Don’t be afraid of producing your phone with the web page up of the same helmet at half the price, almost all places price match now and don’t mind you asking, coz we’re no mugs! Bought my lovely a jacket that was in the shop 770 quid but I got it for £325, I merely and politely asked “do you price match?” before producing my phone for them to check I could legitimately go elsewhere. Excellent experience and I would go back based on their attitude. ps the jacket was for my other half for their bday, personally I can’t spend anything that starts with more than a 1 in its price tag!
11. Do a google of ‘motorcycle maintenance course’ and if your lucky the local college will run one. A college nearish to me does an evening class for a term for not many pennies (considering the time they give you) and it covers the basics including using a multimeter to check bust indicators. It got me over my initial reluctance to touch anything mechanical.
12. Don’t you mean when I pass my test? There’s only so many times a person can fail before the odds arrive in my favour! Unless it turns out I’m a Maureen Rees- remember that terrible driver who repeatedly failed her driving test on the prog ‘Driving school’
13. Ooh wooden Tesco now I really want to do it! Mississippi Bullfrog Thanks for the comprehensive reply I will have a think about round the coast. It’s been in my mind since I gave up endurance cycling last year having not done it. I was thinking of a meandering please myself type of route rather than the brutal cycle it as fast as possible route. I don’t fancy retracing my steps and hadn’t even considered it so that’s definitely a pause for thought but Lands End is is 3 hours max from my doorstop so perhaps I could do it in reverse, go up the coast and back from John O’Groats. I like the sound of Galloway forest. Midge n skeeter wise I drink plenty of quinine so it tends to be other people that get bitten, worked for me the last time I went to Scotland
14. Wish I hadn’t googled Annette Carrion, this led me to trying to remember how many accidents don’t involve another vehicle which led me to some gruesome YouTube footage and the ROSPA report on motorcycle accidents. I’ve just had a friggin awful half an hour and the gins not coming til tomorrow! @mikestrivens Great list, that’s me not doing anything productive for some time!
15. Considering doing Lands End to John O’groats (when I get my full licence) as a test run for possible trips to sunnier climbs. I’d like a scenic route, don’t mind going out of my way to see something worthwhile. Any suggestions or advice gratefully recieved.
16. Cheers m’dears. Am happy I passed and rather pleasantly surprised by how nice the examiner was, very professional and neutral but kinda a little happy for me too! Yes, onto mod 2, not really expecting a first pass on that because Bristol can be a tricky place if your not familiar with it and I have some bad habits but heyho I will conquer eventually!
17. Thanks. I’m happy, althoough I have run out of the pink stuff!
18. Update- yay, it went well- as in the right way pink champagnes ok for lunch isnt it?! The examiner was the same as before, found him courteous, professional and pleasant. Almost messed it up in exactly the same place, thinking ok “avoid the white line as you pull away for the u turn. What r u doing? Stop ng at the (swear word) white line you idiot, aargh I am” Pulled it back before disaster. Apart from that all good!
19. Thanks I’m actually looking forward to it. I kinda wanted to pass on my first attempt (get back in your box ego) but now I’ve failed the first time I feel quite relaxed although slightly bordering on petulant child “don’t care, didn’t want it anyway” Oh I lie!!!
