  1. Finished ‘Uneasy Rider’ by Mike Carter. I can’t make up my mind whether it was worth reading. It’s definitely more about his woes, his divorce and midlife crisis than it is about motorcycle travel and while I started off liking him and finding it funny in places by the end of the book I didn’t much. Won’t go into details because it might spoil it for others and it did make me laugh out loud in places which is no mean feat on dull winter days, just don’t expect the usual travel book.
  2. Civilisation progresses (albeit mostly at a snails pace) because people strive to improve things. The people striving to make these improvements don’t think along the lines they should just be grateful for the way things are because “there’s always someone worse off” Improving education, health, equality of opportunity in this country is a laudable aim, not something that is going to detract from the suffering of others in war torn countries but you never know a better educated more enlightened country might produce people that are capable of making a difference there too. I sympathise to an extent with Husoi’s take on things because my goodness we do A LOT of whining and moaning and a lot less doing which can wear a bit thin when you look at things globally.
  3. I understand pasties post quite well.. my address is..

  5. I can’t abide rude ‘hospitality’ staff because once your food/drink/stay is booked or ordered youre committed and they have the capacity to leave a bad taste on what would have been a good day. I’m not embarrassed about just walking out but often a bad attitude is just borderline and you can’t make up your mind if it’s going to be unpleasant or not until it’s too late! Mind you there’s a cafe near here that has such bad tempered unhelpful staff it’s actually a draw, the owner is such a miserable old bat it makes me laugh. Basil Faulty could learn a thing or two from her
  6. Hmm I’ve been followed loads of times and its never been sinister, always because they were after a bit of fun. Which can be kinda annoying when your just taking in the view so generally I slow right down until they’re bored n bugger off. On one occasion I was chased by three young scrotey looking types who where repeatedly pointing at my bike, I didn’t like it, they caught up with me and kindly told me my backpack was unzipped... prat
  7. I have three keis battery packs n 4 hrs is the max I get out of each one. They are very large for portable batteries and I always had to carry a spare. Now I see they have a battery that’s double the output but it’s also £109 with the charger or £85 without. I won’t be stocking up on those in a hurry!
  8. Sadly my favourite BMW garage has decided to call it a day but there are some seriously cheap jackets, gloves, helmets n great tools now going at auction. Don’t forget to add the 20% vat and the 22% buyers premium though which jacks the price up a fair bit. https://www.johnpyeauctions.co.uk/auction_details.asp?saleid=9408&siteid=1
  9. That’s sad. I’ve read this biker cafe is a goodun. Haven’t tried it myself yet but probably will at some point https://www.cafe-corsa.co.uk/aboutus
  10. How long is a decent length of time? It’s the battery length that puts me off heated gloves and as Ive stepped off the bike and walked away to the twanging sound of me ripping heated gear from its socket more than once I’m no longer keen on the plug in stuff
  11. A suppose being a tithead is better than a dickhead
  12. Funnily enough I watched exactly that before buying my custom plugs. I concluded they didn’t give custom plugs a fair go because they used a different product. It’s all about the fit and amount of leakage around the plug. Ones you mould yourself use a heat reaction and shrink on cooling so you don’t get a good fit (keeping your mouth open while they cool in your ear apparently really helps as it makes the canal larger). Ones that are made for you rely on a mould and use non shrinking materials. Have a read up of the reviews of the ones you mould yourself and you’ll see theyre very hit n miss. I went along with what the audiologists dept I attend had to say about plugs as they really know their stuff and they were absolutely adamant professional custom plugs and large over ear defenders are the only two reliable methods of protecting your hearing. If a companies plugs are also used by swimmers to prevent ear infections they obviously have to achieve a good seal so it’s an indication your going to get a good level of protection. I don’t like the solid custom plugs without a filter because cutting out all traffic noises is cutting out something that gives you an early warning about what other traffic is doing. I have tried them and they don’t feel safe as they effectively make you completely deaf. I like being able to use my custom plugs as earphones and I also really like being able to hear engine roar even if it’s in a muted form. I would suggest anyone getting them (or moulded hearing aids) to go for dark colours because no matter how clean you keep your ears pale colours quickly discolour and look less than appealing. My first set were clear with a purple glitter called ‘Sugar Plum’ loved them for the first two weeks... If your plugs get blocked leave them somewhere warm n dry, then the desiccated contents can easily be knocked out with a little pokey piece of plastic you can get for cleaning hearing aids. If you buy custom plugs with removable filters you can simply wash them with soap n water, if your filters are fixed in the plug or you have speakers built in obviously you mustn’t. I think that’s about everything I know about ear plugs!
  13. Sometimes it is, my ma in law has let her dogs destroy more than one persons pet
  14. It’s a future deafness factor. Have a read up on what your cheap comfy plugs actually block out. Bankrupt wise I can’t argue, they’re punishing on the wallet, just not on the ears, the thing you need to look after for your entire lifespan.
  15. You killed the babbit, killed the babbit, KILLED THE BABBIT
  16. Watching the Armchair Adventure festival stuff today. It’s was great yesterday. Sam Manicom, Austin Vince and Lisa and Simon Thomas gave excellent advice n tips.
  17. Todays breakfast request was eggs benedict and as I had some muffins that were on their last days date I was happy with that. Whisked some salt and garlic pepper into the egg white before replacing the huge duck egg yolk in the centre, that was worth the effort. Went down well with requests for more which were denied on the grounds no-one would have room for roast beef later I love eggs benedict.
  18. Always have a late breakfast Sunday cos everyone has a lie in before training and get back around 10ish. We’re on the roast beef today too.
  19. Specsavers have started doing them, apparently prices start at £60. No idea if they’re any good though.
  20. I did and a second set of filters for shooting and another set of plain plugs. You can pop out one type of filter and put in another in. I used the plain plugs when showering in places with potentially parasitic water. The first set of customs I had from the hospital were solid and blocked out too much noise, I didn’t even hear an ambulance behind me until it was waaay too close so I definitely got filters the next time, lesson learned.
  21. Good morning Rennie Fry up this morning? Im off to cater for the breakfast demands of my hoard
