  1. I know long way up is the most current “adventure” program to watch but it’s a bit too commercial for me. I have recently discovered, and subsequently watched, all the videos on c90adventures on YouTube which I really enjoyed. I then watched a London to Sydney motorcycle adventure on YouTube but it wasn’t as enjoyable as, whenever there was a problem, they just threw money at it and usually had the bikes transported while they got a plane to the next destination so it felt like a bit of a cheat. Anyway just wondering if you have come across any similar “adventure” YouTube channels that you would recommend watching.
  2. A few weeks ago I bought a ‘99 Zzr600 and the ride home was awful, it just wouldn’t lean into corners I was actually worried that I’d bought a lemon. So thought I’d check the tyre pressure, as that is the cheapest/easiest fix and low and behold the tyre was pretty much flat, I pumped it up to the correct psi, took the bike for a ride and it was a totally different experience, i really enjoyed it. Anyway a couple of days later the tyre was low again, so I ended up using soapy water on the tyre and the rim is leaking in about 6 different places. I haven’t got the ability to remove the tyre myself so will have to take it to a garage for it to be looked at but, would you think it’s best to just get the tyre removed and then the wheels powder coated to prevent a repeat of the leaking or has the tyre just not been fitted correctly causing the leaks?
  3. As a fisherman I always enjoy a cup of tea while on the bank and have so far always used a gas stove of some description. Well a little while ago I decided to buy what’s generically known as a volcano kettle but are more well known as either a ghillie kettle or Kelly kettle. I hadnt used it before, as I still had some gas left, but last night it got its first outing and I have to say I’m very impressed. The one I have holds enough water for about 4 cups and boils surprisingly quickly. The fuel is just any bits of twig etc you can find, you make a little fire in the metal bowl and place the kettle on top. The flame/heat passes up through the centre of the kettle and that is how the water is boiled. Anyway this post is a lot longer than I anticipated but for anyone who goes fishing, camping, walking etc I would highly recommend getting yourself one.

  5. Yes all four earth wires are connected to the relevant place on the switch
  6. update: It’s done and I’m still alive I understood that the com wire and l1 wire had to go to the corresponding place on the new switch, the thing that was confusing me is that there was a small piece of wire going from com to com. I left this off the new switch initially but then only one of the lights would work so I put the bridge back in and they both work now Anyway, alls well that ends well.
  7. I just wasn’t sure whether an electrician would bother coming out just for that to be honest. I’m more than happy to leave it to the professionals
  8. Need to replace the light switch in the living room, thought it would be as simple as taking the old one off and putting the new one on by copying where the wires went in the last one....if only! The back of the old one and back of the new one look different so don’t want to take a chance and put the wires in the wrong place but also don’t want to get an electrician out to do it because it’s such a “small job”. Anyway old socket looks like New one looks like And the old wiring looks like this Can anyone give me some help?
  9. My first “big bike” was a hornet 600, I loved it. Super reliable, plenty fast enough and great fun. Just give it a quick oil and filter change, drain the tank, fill up with fresh fuel, give the brakes a quick test and then go take it for a spin for 120 miles until you need to fill up again! Oh and if you decide you don’t like it, you will easily get your money back, especially if you let me have first refusal
  10. Hi mickyley, I’ve just sent you a pm. I currently ride a V-Strom 650 which Is more upright than the bandit and I assume will rev similar to your Vulcan as it’s a vtwin. I don’t know what your budget is but you can pick an older one up for not much money.
  11. How do you find filtering? Is it a bulky bike? And what range do you get off a tank?
  12. I’ve seen a 1998 zzr600 that I’m contemplating buying as a second bike. I’m planning on using it along with my other bike for commuting but also considering using it for a track day or two in the summer. Has anyone owned one and if so would you recommend. I appreciate it’s an old bike now so would I be constantly tinkering or would it be reasonably reliable? The bike I’m looking at has done 30k, would any major work be needed at this mileage?
  13. You do realise you’ve just jinxed yourself
  14. You’ve still got two weeks to get your mileage up. You don’t have to go on long journeys just spending a day riding around the local area will get your mileage up while also building your confidence. I say you need to get your bum in the seat and get out there.
  15. Seat height should be 32.5 inches. The rear shock will probably need replacing if it feels low although they are quite soft from my experience.
  16. Do they all have connections that you can leave on the bike and you just plug in each night without removing the seat and messing with the battery? Or can anyone recommend one that you can do that with?
  17. I’m going to be commuting 5 days a week a relatively short 10 miles/30 minutes and was wondering whether it would be a good idea to get a trickle charger or because I’ll be using the bike daily is this unnecessary?
  18. Well I’ve just bought a new to me bike without ABS. i haven’t ridden a bike with ABS yet so I suppose I don’t know what I’m missing but I’m happy.
  19. If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your son? I have a son and daughter who are now 11 and 13 respectively, if I remember rightly I think we allowed them to get a mobile when they were 10. Anyway, rather than trying to find apps to safeguard I’ve found the best way to deal with it was to have a frank conversation about the dangers of the internet, social media, the “bad man/woman” who they may encounter etc and then I perform spot checks on their phones where I will check what websites they’ve been on, who has sent messages to them and who they’ve sent messages to etc etc. I also got them iPhones and used the inbuilt findmyfriends app which gives you their location at any time you wish. This helps alleviate any fear you may have of them going to school, or the shops on their own, it certainly helped my own anxiety when my daughter started year 7 and started getting public transport on her own. Anyway apologies for the long post but if you have any questions or want more info just give me a shout
  20. I know there’s some on here who have loads of bikes but, I’m currently in the process of buying a V-Strom 650 for my commute which means my hornet 600 will be surplus to requirements. It’s not worth a great deal, only costs £80 to insure for the year and I won’t be needing the money to put towards the V-Strom so I don’t really need to sell it. If I keep it will it end up just rotting away in the garage? Do those of you who own more than one bike find that you spend more time fixing things on the lesser used bike because the brakes begin to seize, battery dies, carbs gum up etc than you actually do riding it? I suppose the question I’m really asking is, is it worth the hassle! I’m also concerned that I’ll miss the IL4 when I start riding a v-twin.
  21. Well the fact you’ve bought the same bike again says more than you probably can put into words! Have you ever considered/owned a Versys?
  22. I’m looking at buying a V-Strom 650 so will be interested if you update this when you’ve ridden it a week or so.
  23. Thanks all for your replies, I sent the dealership a message and they got back to me pretty quickly about arranging test rides. Hopefully I’ll like one of them and it’ll make it an easy decision. If I like both then that’s when the difficulty starts
  24. Just wondering to see if any of you have experience of having a test ride but not buying the bike immediately? Looking at getting either a V-Strom 650 or Versys 650 but want to test ride them first to help me make a decision. Just wondering how much pressure the dealer will put on me to make a decision as soon as I step off the bikes? I’m one of those people who need to mull it over for a couple of days before making a decision but I’m wondering if this means I’m unlikely to get a test ride?
