  1. You are alive and didn't sprawl down the road so you should call that a win. Deer are very flighty and non too bright so difficult to predict what they'll do. Many deer will run head first into cars and so do the 'hittingng's as opposed to bring hit. Have a beer and toast your luck.
  2. In that case the statement is untrue for both experience and safety. They are obviously not safe if they are taking on a bike bigger than they can handle, and not experienced in handling too much bike. It's the safe bit which is throwing me a curve ball. Even experienced bikers can have an off but if one does then they can't be deemed safe under any pretext.
  3. Interesting read thanks. This bit is intriguing though "No matter how safe or experienced a rider is, the reality is that half of all motorcycle deaths involve only one motorcycle and no other vehicle." How exactly do all these bikers get themselves killed if there is no other vehicle involved AND they are "safe or experienced"?
  4. Back in the 70's there were a hell of a lot less cars trying to squish us bikers and like you say safety was less thought of.
  5. Howdy fellow riders, a side topic from another forum raised the subject of wearing helmets. If the law of wearing a helmet was dropped how many riders would ride sans helmet. So I thought it would be an interesting discussion on here. Who would ride without? All the time or just short ride outs? Personally, as a rider for >20yrs, I wouldn't even ride to the shops without mine. I've had four tumbles and in all of them banged my head. I can honestly say I don't think I would be the same person now if I wasn't wearing my helmet. Plus my helmet stops big bugs hitting me in the face, plus it helps shield my ears (with ear plugs too) from wind, keeps my head dry in the rain. And,purely vanity I know but, I like the look of my lid And yet I hear of people who would rather not wear one. It would be interesting to see everyone's opinions.Experiences of lid's saving lives etc So what are you opinions folks? Yay or nay?
  6. Says you! Anyone who has a bike festooned with handbags ........ I read that as a bike festooned with handicaps, nearly spat my coffee over the keyboard.
  7. And it'll feel even less top heavy when riding. A very well balanced bike. Plenty of reviews on Youtube on the V-Strom.
  8. That is excellent. It now looks like you have Toothless the Night Fury hiding behind your screen.
  9. Perhaps it thought the car was a Nissan Bluebird and was acting on instinct
  10. I recently had to renew my licence and don't have a passport (mine expired in 2006 and I haven't felt the need to renew). I was told that I had to go to the post office, so I took the morning off work and went early. They said they don't do it but the bigger post office 40mins drive away might. So I took a chance and went to Bath PO. After some faffing it was done in about 20 minutes using their special licence booth. Have to say they were very quick at delivery as it arrived six days later (and has a rather groovy hologram of my picture on the back) Maybe worth a try? Good luck.
  11. Fugly as sin... and didn't look that fast. Thought there were electric motorbikes out there that could hit triple figures? I'd still have a play though if I could, but never buy it.
  12. Not quite the same but a friend told me to street view our work place a couple months ago. When I did I saw my old Yamaha parked outside.... I sold that bike about 6 or so years ago.
  13. I still drive or ride to work every day and even though the amount of cars on the road has drastically been cut I still see a huge amount of ar*ehole driving from what few cars remain. Corner cutting, high speed cornering, switching lanes several times in a short distance back a and forth, high speeds down 30mph roads, using left lanes at roundabouts for right turns, right hand lanes for left turns, even driving down the wrong side of a road for the full length when there isn't even someone to overtake.. many of the drivers out there now seem to think the rules of the road no longer apply to them.
  14. If you can't find it online then get onto a 3D printer forum. Those folks can print so many different things that one of them is bound to be able to for you.
  15. Had a bimble on the country back roads of Wiltshire today, including Westbury, Bratton, Edington and steeple Ashton. Was a lovely day, sunny and cool. Road conditions were very good in most places and somewhat muddy in the very rural areas. For the most part they were dry and winding ranging from 30mph to NSL. Found a few places I'd never seen before including Edington Priory, Steeple Ashton church, and a very old filling station which was likely used for farm vehicles.
  16. There are a couple of cross roads near me that are totally blind. There is no way to watch out for red light jumpers when crossing as the lights are set so far back that by the time I can see the lights/traffic to the right I'm in line of fire for any jumpers. The roads are only 40mph but very long and straight. This means most cars go through very fast (I'd estimate at least double legal speed) trying to beat the lights or nipping through after the lights have turned red. It really is a case of go when my lights turn green and hope for the best.Scary, very scary.
  17. 1. Not all officers are allowed to ram bike thief. (So no, police officers cannot abuse their power or run thieves down whenever they like) 2. Only officers that have been specially trained in tactical ramming can. 3. The officers must radio to headquarters first and gain permission to go ahead with ramming. 4. There is always an inquest of sorts after whenever a ramming has occured. And as for releasing a video of the rammings so far that is known as scare tactics. It lets future bike thieves know what can become of them and maybe, just maybe, put them off (which means less ramming required in the future) Many of the thieves use acid/grinders/knives and other various weapons to gain the bike/phone from victims. There is more to bike thieves than you seem to think. Hope that is clear enough for you.
  18. Lane control began to disappear a few years ago here. Typical sight everyday would be someone pulled up at the roundabout with no indicators on and sat right in the middle of both lanes. No way of knowing if the dipshit is turning left or right or going straight on. In the car I can't get alongside them and on the bike there is no way I'd pull along side any of these people as they are oblivious to any others vehicles near or behind them. Very dangerous. Lane control at traffic lights is also pretty dangerous here (along with the huge amount of red light jumpers).

    Vertigo

If I remember correctly the head/neck exercise work only if your problem is caused by chalky/calcium build up in the inner ear. I had a bout of Labyrinthitis many years ago. Lasted four months, a month longer than most cases. The doctor put me on very strong tablets but they only helped a little. Time and tablets are usually the way to battle vertigo problems. Hope it isn't anything serious, good luck.
  20. That's great, cheers Mark. They have amazing fangs, very green. Wish I had kept her for a while just to get a good look at her. What were you enticing them with? Babies? small children? Next one I find I'm going to have a good look at, there are plenty round here in gaps and crevices.
  21. Nice one Mark, I'd like to say that I exaggerated the size but I didn't. It really was a big beastie. Your picture looks pretty much spot on. What sort of tube-dweller is that? The only ones I've seen are slim and very black. I have two living in the flat, one in the drainage hole of the bathroom window and another in a gap between the wall and a cupboard. I did have one briefly living in my door keyhole (deadlock type) but my key sadly mangled that one.
