    Seat recover

I recovered my ZX7 seat last year (dont have the bike anymore) and i found it fairly easy with a staple gun. Can be a pig to get round the corners done without folding the leather and causing creases, but the longer you spend doing it properly, the better it'll look i bought this from ebay ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330856852781? ... 1423.l2649 i plan to do my VFR seat shortly too as its fairly discolored now
  2. Do you have a link to the GPS tracker? It depends on what voltage it takes ... Normally i'd expect it to be directly wired to the battery. You only really need to wire the positive to the GPS (aslong as its V range is 10 - 16v ish) then connect the negative to the bike frame etc
  3. Yup deffo too much W*$%ing ... Get yourself a VFR 800 matey .. you know you want to !
  4. I smell a faulty side stand switch by a mile ... if the top of the side stand switch is covered in gunk (oil from chain etc) then its shorting out the sidestand switch and causing the engine to cut out ... my old CBR did this when i was in gear and revving about 5000 ... to eliminate the sidestand, take the switch off and short the two wires out ... (could have three, in which case, one is for the dash light)
  5. Ohh fanx folks ... sorry i've only just noticed it now though Just dont seem to find as much time to get on here !! I was traveling back from the NW200 on the sunday (20th) and had a great weekend there. Again, thanks for the birthday wishes, luvs you all
  6. I think nodding should be part of your training when learning ... its something that i like about biking in general, most bikers i ever see .. even if im just stood near my bike give a wave or a nod and i always nod or wave to fellow bikers. KEEP IT ALIVE FOLKS !! If people dont nod back then fairy snuff, but i always do.
  7. recently did a couple of fairings myself .. As hodgy says, no you dont need to remove all the colour, just ensure you sand the whole panel otherwise it wont stick to the shiny bits i did 3x coats of primer then a light sanding .. 3x coats of colour, then 2ish coats of laquer .. (but i wish i did 3x) Leave at least 24hrs between ... then its even more hard work making them shine .. after youve done all that you probs want to sand lightly with 2000grit then work with some rubbing compound .. then buff ... I havnt done the last bit yet though ...
  8. Anyone going ? Me, Silent Ninja and a few others are going from the dumfries area on the 18th of May (sailing at 10:30am) We'll be staying at hilltop/blairs holiday park on the 18th and 19th.
  9. For the sake of £15 i would go for the pilot roads too but Maxxis aint a bad tyre, most people who dismiss them have never tried them and just follow what others say. Pilot roads always get good reviews afaik and Maxxis tend to get mixed reviews, bad ones usually by people that havnt used them though. FWIW - Maxxis are seen as the budget brand and Michelin as the premium brand.
  10. Just hope they dont find the bodies under the porch ... Congratz!
  11. OOooo oo ooooo Me Me me emee me !!! Just noticed this ! I'll deffo meet up with you lot this time!! What kinda time ya recon youll be hitting moffat on the friday? .. am i gunna have to try get a day off work?
  12. Hi Polecat, Fantastic thread, and one i've been studying for the past wee while. I came off my ninja and ended up grazing the left side badly and cracking it too. I'm sure a bit of plastic welding will cure it though. But then i'll need to respray the offending panel. I'd rather respray the whole lot white but i dont fancy tackling a full spray with no experience !! There seem to many different recommendations in regards to paining panels but as i can see your results i will probs match your process, crossing my fingers that i can achieve something similar. Heres what i have in my head ... . (Once i've repaired the panel etc) Sand the panel down with 180 - 300 grit Wipe panel down with white spirits. spray with primer (3 coats, 20mins between) leave to cure for 24hrs ish? - Should i sand with wet n dry before colour ? Spray with colour coat (3 coats, 20 mins between) ... When do i start spraying clear coat ?
  13. Yo! Just bought a new lid after bashing mine a bit when i slid my bike down the road ... anyhoo .. 16. Have a look at these guys eBay Link I bought my last chain n sprocket kit from them, and they were cheaper than busters.
  17. Cam chain tensioner? I know its a common fault on the cbr anyway ...
  18. If its got an orange lid and/or says a"dot 5" its brake fluid... but I'm fairly sure it'll be the water filler tank.
  19. Top right "User Control Panel" > Board Preferences > Edit posting defaults >"Notify me upon replies by default" Set to "Yes"
  20. Been running the bike back and forward to work since i charged the battery (last time i posted mebe ?) and i've been running without the lights switched on .... Untill last night ! I switched them on for the journey home as it was pissing it down and pretty gloomy. By the time i got a mile from home i stopped in traffic and the engine cut at low revs !! i quickly bumped it to get the engine running (was still rolling lol) quickly switched the lights off and got home. Must be the Reg/Rec as the battery has enough juice to start it up, indicate etc for days but the lights just killed it ! Fun and games !
  21. Well i havnt had a look at the bike since i posted this as ive been off caravanning Back to work on monday so i'll report back with any probs... I'm hoping that it was just that the positive terminal was slightly loose when i checked. I did start it up last weekend just to see if the battery was ok, and it started no probs at all Cheers for the advice etc lads
  22. Battery is probs a year old ish and the bike is used monday to friday for work ... I've never had a problem with the battery since last year when i replaced the battery. Rode the bike into work today, never noticed a problem. Went to start the bike at lunch and it seemed a little sluggish to start but got going ... Went to tescos at the top of town (abt 1 mile away) and after getting a few things from tescos the batery was flat !! Got a mate to come jump start me and got back to work where i had a multi meter, so i left the bike idling while i ran up to get it ... Tested the voltage on the battery (running at idle) and it was 14v ... (a little high ???) Revving the engine brought it down to 12.5 - 13.5 ish .. then idling again would make it sit at 12.5 Ish ... After about 1.5 mins the voltage would rise to 14v again ... a quick blip would make it settle to 12.5 - 13 again Now all this has just happend so im hoping it will start at the end of the day .. but ill post here Main question for now is ... is 14v normal ? it seemed a tad high to me. Reg/Rec was getting a little hot ... to hot to keep my hand on, but im not sure if thats ok or not??
  23. Ahhhhhh ... so wish i could have made it now Im deffo coming next year !!!!! Have fun folks, take plenty piccys and lets hope there isnt a warewolf this year .... ehh Stu ..
