  1. i bought a new battery 6 months ago and havent used the bike much since buying it. i started using it again a few weeks ago and first day had to bump it. i then rode it 150 kms, straight. i hoped this would charge the battery but it seems to stay charged for about 5 mins... so i suppose it would be better to change it? im getting a bit sick of bumping it twice a day for work. anyway, i was wondering, is there anything i should know if i go to place a buy a brand new battery and fit it myself? will i need to charge it or do anything to it before using it or can you usually just put them straight in? thanks in advance
  2. There's your problem youre not effing joking mate...
  3. yeah, hmmm. Seriously though, i dont want to have this problem every time i disconnect the petrol tank because im planning on doing it alot soon. its a 250 hyosung so it shouldnt take me an hour to get to 70
  4. Ive been doing a job (and no, my phrase isnt misplaced) on my bie so its was in bits for a while. When I went to put it back together, it wouldnt start. I thought it was the battery - charged it - wasnt the problem. There was no fuel in the pipes. So, got it going and it woudnt go past 30. I relented and kept pushing it and after an hour got it up to 70. what happened? why did it do that? is it going to do this every time i take it apart? thanks for your wisdom yet again
  5. ha ha, not likely but i can pick up a new battery here (in Korea) for about 10 quid. A battery charger will cost me about 40 or 50 (skewed economics). Anyway, thanks for the advice folks (Jebus ! They are cheap as chips on Amazon!).
  6. My bike has been stripped for 2 months and the battery has been sitting in the kitchen. I bought the battery 4 months ago and have ridden about 800kms on it. Yesterday, I re-attached the battery and the bike wouldnt start. The horn is very weak when i press it so Im assuming its a problem with the battery (however the indicators/neutral light) are still working). I cant bump start the bike either (though it does tick over a few times now and again). I just wanted you advice before i go out and buy other battery as I have a/no way of recharging it and b/ im not fit enough to try to bump start it again like today (because the hospital bill will be more than the price of a new battery). So do you think my battery is dead or is it mucky carbs? thanks very much in advance (and well done team GB!)
  7. thanks, ill check tonight when i rebuild it.
  8. Hi, just a tip to let people know, it is possible to remove the nut, holding in the clutch basket with an air-socket. It came off very quickly and easily just holding the housing with my hand (save yourself some money if you ever have to do this). cheers
  9. thanks, im pretty sure i dont have that on my bike but its worth having a look. cheers
  10. Im trying to remove the basket/housing (number 5 on the diagram). If you look at the diagram the nut (marked 15) moves with the ratchet (it moves freely) and number 3 moves aswell (whether in gear or not)!. How do you get it (number 15 nut) off? Ive looked on youtube and it says to use a motorcycle wrench. It seems to be really jammed on though. Any tips? thanks
  11. cheers, like i said, its a new clutch - plates springs and all. Theyre getting a good soak tonight before they go in again though. thanks (btw - i thought youd read my mind at first before you corrected yourself )
  12. thanks very much for the replies everyone. Live and learn with the bolts, i had no idea they were so delicate. I know the problem isnt the oil becasue it started randomly slipping after id been riding about 200 kms one day. Its had 2 oil changes since then and a clutch change. I was just wondering if not enough oil on the clutch plates would have made a significant difference. Ok, back to work! cheers lads
  13. not long had my bike back from the repair shop and as I still have problems with clutch slipping, Im following advice (re:tmbf) and starting to strip down my bike engine (etc.) myself (despite being a complete novice ). hence 2 quick questions; first - i took the clutch apart (which was fitted as new) to see if it had been soaked, as its wet. Only the outer parts of the rings looked wet/oiled and the inside didnt look wet at all. Would this have much bearing at all on the clutch working well? second - after id soaked the clutch for ten mins, i was replacing the springs and one of the screws broke off inside the clutch centre . I wasnt really applying too much pressure either. Is this my fault (and should i be more careful in future) or is it a faulty (cheap!) screw. (luckily i still have my old clutch..). Thanks in advance. Btw, when im finished through doing all this, I may be able to start giving advice instead of asking for it all the time
  14. you cant top this for smooth blowing ... ">
  15. i just read ' grimlim zzip mnaestor deetor yan bo etc.'. Itll take me a while to decifer what you just said - thanks for putting me on the right tracks, Im going to make a start on it this weekend once i find out what tools i need. its reassuring to know im saving myself money at the cost of learning. cheers
  16. thanks for the replies. Like I said, Im not much of a mechanic, is it possible to change only specific gears or would i need to haul the whole thing? It seems to be only 3 rd and 4 th Im having problems with. cheers
  17. hi. Can anyone please help me? ? ? Ive had a problem with my bike for 3 months which so far no one and and a large amount of cash has managed to get to the bottom of. I was riding a few months back and I basically lost all my gears apart from 5th 100 miles from home. When I got it back I had (at different shops) the clutch plates removed and changed, the drive shaft/gear shaft changed and the gear selector changed. It still doesn’t feel right. It slips out of gear when im riding sometimes – mostly in 4th. I went over a bump a few days ago and it came out then too. It feels very ‘spongy’ when Im changing down and occasionally gets stuck in Neutral. I have to stamp on it to get it to go down sometimes. I tested it clutchlessly (going up) for 30 mins the other day and it still slipped out. The lad at the shop reccons its me not the bike but ive been riding it for 2 years and reccon I know how to change gear on it. Any help would be greatly received because im at my wits end especially because im not a mechanic in any shape or form. Thanks (hyosung comet gt 250)
  18. Cheers. Before I get the engine going there's nothing. I thought it may have been the cut off on the side stand but I don't think my bike has one. I've tried it with the clutch in and out
  19. Ive had a lot of problems lately with wiring etc but today after I went to town, the bike wouldn't start at all. There's no sound at all from the starter motor, there's nothing. The neutral light isn't on either which is unusual. I can bump start it easy and even if I leave it running, the battery doesn't seem to charge. Any idea what I should do first as I'm trying to diagnose the problem. Thanks
  20. its not a lot to be honest but but the bottom of the filter was wet. When i wiped it clean it was the colour of oil so i thought it may have been that. the fuel pipe is leaking slightly and im getting it changed today. So, you dont think theres a problem with the carburetors? thanks btw
  21. firstly, even after 2 years, Im still a complete newb so sorry for my ignorance... I wanted to clean the air filter today and when i took it out and looked in the air filter case (is that what its called?), i noticed there was fuel in the bottom of the case and some on the base of the air-filter. Is that normal or a problem? Thanks
  22. I have a 2004 GT which I bought second hand. general As far as my information has lead me, The Hyosung company build pretty shoddy engines pre 2007 and were prone to breaking. There has also been a problem with the cam chain breaking in older bikes. As far as I know this problem has been rectified. The stock parts are not of great quality but overall they seem to be quite robust. They are certainly not useful if you want to upgrade. It is possible to upgrade certain parts of this bike however and a trip to the hyosung forum will be helpful on tips for that (aswell as specific maintainence questions). As the GT is naked, the engine may suffer a little in very cold weather. The stock fork oil is crap so you may want to change it or else it is too spongey when you break - easily fixed! clutch can be a little heavy and 'clunks' a lot (more so in first and second) There seems to be a problem with the fuel gauge breaking and the electrics faulting on korean bikes but otherwise they are pretty stable and can be put through mill. Ive routinely serviced mine since changing the worn parts after i bought it and have since ridden it the length and bredth of the country in all conditions. Ive only ever had a few faults with the electrics in two years of riding. The engine has been solid. It always starts. It has very good fuel economy (due to the size of the engine). The under seat storage is very useful. The passenger seat may be a little high for some peoples preference. There is ample space on the bike to fit a storage box and panniers without impeding the passengers comfort. Stock parts are very cheap. In my opinion, it has quite a comfortable riding position. top speed around 100-105 mph. Cruises quite comfortably at 80 mph or 70 with a passenger. If you need anymore advice, please P.M. me safe riding!
