  1. If you have a tendency to leave an indicator on its worth getting in the habit of 'pressing it off' again as a make sure check....(Then if you had missed it it wouldn't be on for long)
  2. I'm looking at getting a weather proof GPS but I can't justify the the cost of a Tom Tom Rider. I have seen a Peaklife GPS which is from China and as its weather proof and only about £90.00 it could do for what I need. Has anyone any experience with these and what does it involve trying to get the current european maps?
  3. worth pressing the cancel button on the indicators a couple of times after use just to be sure they are off Keep your distance
  4. Pleased to hear that things have gone well for you...... I'm also in Newark so and I'm lookiing to give it a go as well...not sure if i should now wait till new year or not though. By the way if you ever feel like a steady local ride out anytime let me know....
  5. Hi Katie..where did you go to Lincs or Notts? I'm still interested in doing it but been too lazy to book anything... Hope it goes okay
  6. Fair comment as far as sticking to non urban speed limits goes but, believe me, there's nothing dull about the concentration you need to fettle everything and the bottom line is safety and position, you can use absolutely everything you learn at a slightly quicker pace (If you want to) than when you are being observed or tested. Totally agree. I also agree ( as I know you Colin) that experience does count for a lot. As for me in only my 5th summer riding - boy am I having fun and since undertaking advanced training I can ride my bike to both it's and my limit. Cornering is now smooth and fast, I use my gears wisely. I am far from perfect and also still have errors - I put that down to inexperience, being human, oh and being a hormonal woman lol If you are thinking about it, just try it. You will soon decide if it is not for you. There is stil an element of pipe and slipper brigade with their " I know better than you" attitude. I just take their knowledge and ignore the ego. If more "normal" bikers went into advanced training then they would soon be outnumbered anyway and the image would change. Ok I will shut up now Youve convinced me..I'm in my first full year of riding but feel ready now to strenghen some areas of my riding.......I feel I am still slow assessing and entering some corners and could do with being more confident on motorways during certain conditions ie rain, and in the dark
  7. I agree" You should always be able to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear." If they stop so should you be able to.....otherwise you are 100% to blame

    failed MOT

sounds like you need to turn internals of headlight upside down then so it kicks off to nearside low!
  9. Yes, this is how I see it....They are looking for good safe control...keep the revs busy and slip the biting point of the clutch
  10. I did mine at Lincoln and had to ride behind his outstretched arm holding his board. its slow walking pace and the idea is yes, to ride slow but also not to get too close..so treat it as the rear of a car and leave some distance..don't get your front wheel to close to his arm
  11. some ride (though sounds a bit much for me with my limited riding in the dark experience -the lights are so poor on my bike)......... Hats off and well done to you all !
  12. Have a look here mate - http://www.bikers4macmillan.org.uk/files_advice.aspx - need to DL some files Thanks for that ..but not got Tom Tom to hand at the mo....... Sorry but I'm a bit of a ludite when it comes to connecting sat nav to pc etc and dont even know where the lead to do it with is etc I was thinking of trying to get some night photos of a group of them if they come through newark
  13. Have a look here mate - http://www.bikers4macmillan.org.uk/files_advice.aspx - need to DL some files Thanks I've had a look at their web page but i dont have a sat nav to hand so files no use to me They do mention a change of route on the A46 nr nottingham so could well be coming this way or via grantham area
  14. I take it 'this is ongoing the moment then'? Does anyone know the route they are taking and are they passing close to where i am at Newark on the way to skegness
  15. I used to do that, nice bit of fishtailing. Trick is in blipping the throttle as you change down, takes a bit of practice but well worth it. Will stop the back locking up but still give you nice engine braking. Yes,I agree with this..... I found myself changing down later and faster then having back wheel problems on occasions from excessive engine braking..now i have learnt to smooth the whole thing out by blipping the throttle to match the engine more and it allows me to carry the speed through if i want to or use more controlled engine braking or normal brakes if required
  16. My first trip out to watch the bikes at Cadwell and I took loads of photos- Had a great day Cadwell - sunday-29th May
  17. Same here..I only got asked questions on Mod 2 Just do your lifesavers before you set off to do each manourve..treat it as though you are on the road Good Luck
  18. Yes once i had countersteering explained to me it was a revelation to try it out an use it and so vital/ usefull to know in the event of an emergency when a swerve is needed..... surely its taught in order to do the mod 1 swerve test?
  19. If push with your right hand you will go right, not left Sit on your bike with the front wheel straight forward, then push with your right hand and the wheel will turn to the left. and the bike will lean right once you are over 15mph
  20. Got me confused now.....if your going left you should be pushing the left handlebar ( counter steering)
  21. I think the main reason for doing the independent riding section is to see if you can look for road signs and follow them without forgetting the normal safe riding habits you should be doing Its just a bit of multitasking nothing more
