  1. If you’re absolutely confident that you have the knowledge and experience to deal with a claim in full, keeping appropriate records and being sure the other insurer will update the MID correctly then, sure, don’t go through your insurers. Personally I would always go through my insurers but as someone who worked for Aviva (and worked with the Claims / Complaints / Fraud and Liability areas at one time or another) I bow to their greater experience.
  2. A guy I knew (RIP) rode an unmarked bike in Norfolk in the 1990’s. He occasionally turned up at meets with it. He thought it funny to switch on the blues for fun when following you while “making progress”
  3. Good evening. A fine day spent wandering around Langdale (Great and Little). We had an interesting little diversion to the Little Langdale quarry. What a place. Suffice to say we had a fine time exploring this disused quarry, and the huge cathedral sized cave . Well worth a quick explore (you can ride right by it on trail bikes, or mountain bikes).
  4. Heading to the Lake District for a couple of weeks walking the fells, and some family time.
  5. Ah, girls from Coventry. Oh happy days… Sorry, I got a bit carried away there. Congratulations.
  6. I was tempted by the Crossdresser, sorry, Crosstourer but the bikes on two test rides I’ve had - one manual, one DCT - both had fuelling issues. Really quite disappointing.
  7. I work on the basis that I don’t care what it looks like. It rides well and I can’t see it when I’m riding.
  8. Bad news. I pulled up in Middleton-in-Teesdale the other day and I’d hardly got my lid off before an old chap (and given my advanced years, that’s saying something) asked me if it was shaft drive, and did I know what the first shaft driven bike was. Clue. It isn’t my guess at Ariel Square four. I didn’t want a GS. I tried a host of other bikes when trying to find a replacement for my FJR1300. I tried the RS… lovely bike but the riding position wouldn’t have suited me for long distance rides. Then the bar steward salesman said “try the GS”. What a git. Why would anyone do that to another human being? I bought one from a different dealer just to get revenge. Ha!
  9. Have a word with Kate at Hideout… made to measure may be the way to go (requires deep pockets, mind).
  10. I have rather cheated with this one from today’s little ride. Just to the right, out of shot is a rather nice blue 1961 BSA.
  11. Off for a little bimble today… If I had a bit more time I’d have dropped south of the A66 to avoid it. But, hey, Ho.
  12. We’ve only ever toured in September. The weather’s usually good, and it’s outside peak holiday time. This year is in jeopardy as another grandchild is due to appear at some point then.
  13. You could always camouflage it under Michael Fabricant’s wig…
  14. Good evening. Today I have been mostly setting up an irrigation system in the poly tunnel ready for our break in the Lakes. The strawberries are coming along nicely, too.
  15. Me. We have a small stream (or burn, as they call them around here) running through our garden. I managed to drop my iPad in it while taking photos of the garden. Bugger! Luckily only the speakers have been affected and I can listen to stuff via Bluetooth.
  16. Sorry. I can’t help. Try the forum if it still exists.
  17. Mileage 49,000 miles (ish) I’ll need to check the fork legs when I get home this evening but I would assume yes as the fork seals need replacing.
  18. I’m on holiday for a couple of weeks soon, so 18th June or after is no problem.
  19. Our retirement was supposed to be downsize house, upsize garden. Perhaps a small project (extension / redecorate type thing). The garden upsize certainly happened (from 70’s estate type house to 3 acres), the house is about the same size as our previous one and is a complete gut and renovate project. Aargh.
  20. I think I have the standard screen as well as the double bubble, but would need to confirm.
  21. This is the bike just before I removed the front wheel and fork legs. I’ve started dismantling under the fuel tank - the coils are loose, but that’s pretty well as far as I’ve got. i’ll post photos of the bike pre-dissembling, from a couple of years ago. They’re probably flattering as the bodywork has numerous scratches and cracks.
  22. This one is in pretty good nick. I had a long chat with the owner this evening who gave me the full SP. The good news is that the guy who has been servicing it etc. is the guy who used to service my bikes and is a top guy with a great reputation.
  23. It’s not in my way, (it’s been where it is this long, a bit longer won’t hurt) so to suit you.
  24. Thanks. I’m unlikely to use it in inclement weather. It’s to be my solo Sunday toy, keeping the GS mostly for touring and any two up trips. I’ll probably do my day at Cadwell on it as dropping it (fingers crossed, not) would be less painful to the wallet than the GS.
