  1. My bike is a Yamaha YBR 125. I have not been using it much the past few years but I dusted it off this morning, inflated the tyres, made sure it had fuel and oil, tested the breaks etc.. then have been flying around. I dont really know if what I think I am experiencing is a problem, the only way I can describe this smell is the smell of a new engine. Its like a slight burning type smell but you would not really call it "burning burning". Anyway, I just got back and I can smell this smell coming from the exhaust. I know its probably nothing, the bike is in great condition with only a few thousand miles use, and like I said it has plenty of oil and the petrol has been sat in the bike about 6 weeks maybe?
  2. I have rode mine in pitch black conditions with no streetlights etc... The original headlight in my 2010 model was perfectly fine, I survived. I have since upgraded to a halogen bulb (£14), and that has improved the headlight. So theres nothing to worry about in my opinion.
  3. Right now we are going to play it by ear, if the noise returns, it will be booked into garage asap. Just looking for possibilities here, sorry for the lack of details, this is really all I have to go on myself.
  4. fgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
  5. Cinema and going out for food saturday. Then i am working 12 hour shifts sunday and monday doing security on some dirty scrap metal place. Then I start my new job and I have got about 10 days of constant shifts (starting sunday) before I get a day off due to the overlap of shift patterns between my jobs.
  6. To be honest with you it is boring. I am used to working building sites, long 12 - 16 hour shifts all night on my own. Which gave me certain freedoms to read books, watch a bit of tv etc... long as I did my job and didnt fall asleep lol. Easy money tho my friend. Cant knock it. If nothing happens then im getting paid for nothing
  7. You would be suprised at the amount of rules we have to follow these days, odds are I wont be stopping anybody. 99% of the time at least. I will just be stood by the door most of the time. Its easy money. I also like working security, the pay is crap and the hours unsocial but its growing and I see this as a step towards been the boss haha.
  8. About a month or so ago I posted about losing my job and having to put my bike up for sale as I cant afford the repayments. This is just a bit of a pointless update to that post. I just thought it would be nice to share a bit of good news for a change. The company I have been working for told me they have no work to offer me, so for the majority of the past month I have been sat around doing nothing. I think ive done 4 shifts, which is nothing. Either way I went for my first job interview doing something new (security in tescos lol), I got offered the job and am ready to start in less than a weeks time. My notice has been served with my previous employer who has also said if things dont work out, give them a call. So all in all I have been very lucky. It took me 3 years of unemployment to get the job I am leaving. I guess what they say about how much easier it is to find work when your already in work. The hours suck in my new job, but they are bound to give the new boy all the rubbish shifts. I am looking forward to the challenge. I am also looking forward to using my bike to commute to work instead of selling it (and losing thousands of pounds ive forked out). Woop Woop. So there you go, a bit of good news.
  9. If you topped it up BEFORE the "leak" showed itself, it's possible that it's just overflow from the expansion bottle... especially if it's as warm there today as it was here No No Topped it up after the fluid / leak was discovered. Can anyone tell me what this is (blue arrow).... http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/2579/imag0200go.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us As you can see there is some liquid on the top of that (has been in the past that I have noticed), one theory I have is that its leaking from that and dripping down onto the ledge under the radiator (pink shape). I am going to give it all a good look over tomorrow morning when the car is here and is nice and cold.
  10. Not so, there are a few very nice and smart chaps on here who may be able to assist.
  11. Just noticed some fluid on the driveway under the radiator. Stuck my head under the car and its defo the blue colour engine coolant from the radiator. Here are some pictures: http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/4251/imag0194o.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2599/imag0195b.jpg http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/475/imag0196d.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/3451/imag0197m.jpg http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/5107/imag0198m.jpg http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4144/imag0199p.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/7697/imag0200g.jpg http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/9915/imag0201g.jpg It cannot have been leaking long and I plan on making sure I keep it topped up with coolant (out to buy some now), but I am just wondering if any of you have any idea what I should do... how bad a leaking radiator is? Whether the car should even be used with a leak in the radiator? Help is grately appreciated. I plan on giving this place in my town which deals with old peugeots a bell on Monday, see what they say. This old banger is very important for our life, we both work far away from where we live, getting a little worried here.
  12. One way would be to fit a black box to every car / bike that keeps track of speed / breaking etc... sort of like black boxes in an plane but not as detailed. These boxes would be fitted and maintained as part of the yearly MOT process. You could then use these boxes with your insurance company (if you wanted to) as a way of reducing your insurance premiums, but that part should be optional. Now... the big kicker: If your involved in a car accident or bike accident and your black box data (only accessed by professionals) indicates that your excess speed caused the accident then the NHS will bill you for all your treatment, the police and other services will fine you for clean up costs etc... That would work with me. A cheaper way would be to increase the fines for speeding. £100 fine for every 5mph over the speed limit you are caught travelling, plus 1 point on your license for every 5mph over the speed limit. Simple. Hit them where it hurts.
  13. Bloody ouch! All that money blown on a single mistake must be infuriating. Just make sure you dont give up.
  14. I got my bike in the autum last year because I was working very long (16 hour) awkward shifts at weekends, every weekend. So my choice at the time was pass my CBT and get a bike on finance, or spend 2 hours on a bus (3 hours on a sunday) to get to work... then get a taxi home which would cost a fortune. I got used to the bike and started using it for work, in this time I had to ride in some terrible weather without any lower body protective gear which would leave me soaked through and ice cold. Not the best experience. High winds were not very nice either. And there was one morning, it was a monday, 6.30am freezing cold, very windy, lots of traffic on roads, fog and heavy rain. I spent from about 3am til 6.30am shitting myself wondering how the hell I am going to get home in this weather. I did it tho, it was just very scary and not very nice. Thanked the gods I was still alive when I got home lol. As for now... I am not much of a rider, still trying to get my confidence back after my accident in november (not caused by weather). So when I do go out to get practise I wont go in the rain. The goal is to get using the bike for work again, so I do also need to get used to riding in all weathers (bar ice, snow and bad storms). One thing I do have to say is you should try to avoid riding when very tired. One time, early Sunday morning, riding home after a long shift... I got home to notice that my rucksack with £1000 worth of laptop inside it had been wide open the whole journey home, luckily nothing fell out.
