  1. Steady on mate its only Monday, I've not finished asking about this weeks question yet
  2. Hi everyone, I passed my CBT in March and a friend has offered to sell me his 1992 Honda C90, it has 10,000 miles, a few dinks and scratches, as well as a cracked mirror, he's looking for £1750 - £1850 and I was just wondering if this was a good price, he's the bikes 2nd owner and has replaced the white wind guard and fuel pipe, the bike is also fitted with a fuel filter, he reckons he's spent around £600 on it since owning it, id imagine on servicing and things. Do you think this would be a good buy as a first bike? Do you think its worth £1750 or shall I offer lower? Many Thanks Matt
  3. Hi everyone, I passed my CBT a few weeks ago and was considering buying a new Honda CB125F for £3000, I was just wondering if this would be a good choice of first bike and if it would be as reliable as an older Honda 125 like a CG or if there's any Yamaha / Suzuki that would be a better choice, my main concern would be the electronics being over complicated with sensors and it being expensive to repair if something went wrong, the insurance is dear too. I enjoy doing my own maintenance and servicing on my car, so wouldn't mind a bike that needed a little bit of work for £1000 either, just can't seem to make up my mind, any advice would be great, can't seem to find anything semi vintage in good condition in my area (Leicestershire), any advice or help would be great, really appreciate you reading my post. Matt
  4. Hi everyone, I passed my CBT the other Thursday, just wondered if anyone had an old Honda CG 125 (1976-1982) for sale, was looking to spend £1000 - £1300, if anyone has a road worthy one that they'd like to sell in the Midlands area I'd love to view it. Many Thanks Matt

  6. Hi Everyone, I was thinking of going for an old Honda CG 125 as a first bike, I've seen one that's a 1979 tax and MOT exempt model and looks well looked after for £1900, I was initially going to go for a new Chinese retro looking Lexmoto / Bulit bike for the same money but was put off by the EURO 5 regulations and electrical / build quality issues people have talked about, just wondered what everyone thought. 7. Hi everyone, hope you're all well, I've been doing research and have decided to go for a second hand retro Japanese bike as my first bike after my CBT; I was initially considering a 125 Van Van or 125 marauder but I'd struggle to get these down the alley way next to my house (about 790mm clearance) and I don't have a front garage, then I saw the Honda CG 125's from the late 70's / early 80's and really like the look of their retro cafe racer type styling and I've heard they're reliable and easy to fix, I don't really like the idea of ECU's and electronics that can go wrong. Would one of these be a good first bike for around £1000 - £1500? I only live up the road from where this one is advertised, 1981 with 80,000 on the clock (see link), not sure how often the oil has been changed though, if you could give me some advice that would be great. https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda-motorbikes/classic-cg125-honda-/1424262732 Many Thanks Matt
  8. Hi Everyone, I'm about to book my CBT and am getting insurance quotes, I'm a homeowner and have held a car licence for 15 years (9 years no claims bonus), aged 33, no points or endorsements and my quote for insuring a Lexmoto Tempest 125cc was £270 third party fire and theft with a £250 excess from my current car insurance provider and higher with other companies, is it normal for bike insurance to be this expensive on 125CC's when starting out with L-Plates? Any advice you have would be great Thought the Lexmoto Tempest 125 was a good choice given its slim handlebar width which means i can get it down my alleyway, was also considering buying a 125cc cruiser like the AJS highway Star or one of their vintage style scramblers; was considering going second hand japanese but finally decided on something new in the £2,000 - £3,000 price range, any advice would be great Thanks for all your help Matt
  9. Hi everyone Thanks a lot for the advice I really appreciate it, I've been having a look online and really like the look and positive reviews the Suzuki Van Van 125 has, so I'm edging towards one of those, are there any serious problems that they're prone to? Is it best to buy from a dealer or a private seller? Many Thanks for all your help as always Matt
  10. Hi everyone, hope you've had a good Christmas I'm looking at doing my CBT in the new year and buying my first bike as a hobby and also for commuting (2 miles to work and back) / UK holiday journeys, i'm 33, 6ft tall and have car no claims of 9 years etc. although I can't have anything with a handlebar width of over 800mm due to access to storage. Would love to take the plunge as I've had mates who've said its helped with their wellbeing and its really fun. I was looking at the range of Steve Mcqueen style retro 125cc scramblers that brands like AJS, Herald, WK, Bulitt, Mutt, Brixton and Mash do, was also considering a Keeway Cruiser, however there's lots of stories about faults and servicing costs within the first 2 years of ownership (with servicing having to be done through the dealership to keep the warranty). Other issues pointed out on youtube reviews were poor visibility on rear view mirrors (AJS). I also read another review about a Herald Classic 125 needing lots of parts replacing in the first 2 years. I can't seem to find any bikes in this style from the big brands like Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki in a 125cc that could potentially be of better quality. I do servicing on my car and have replaced suspension / brake parts on it but not sure if I'd be confident stripping down and overhauling a whole motorbike. I was also considering a vintage 125 such as a BSA Bantam if it were easy to repair / maintain. The new Bike reviews I was looking into are for the following models AJS Cadwell 125 AJS Tempest Roadster / Scrambler 125 Herald 125 / Herald Cafe Racer 125 Bullit Buroc 125 Mutt Mongrel 125 WK Classic Scrambler 125 Lexmoto Tempest 125 Brixton Sunray 125 Mash British Seven 125 Keeway Cruiser 125 I was just wondering what your advice would be any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks in advance Happy Christmas Matt
