  1. trying to figure out why 50cc scoot doesnt have any lights or charging stator ac reading while on yellow 20 - 60 jumping with throttle, white 20 - 60 jumping with throttle rectifier dc - red 12.48v (should be reading 14-15v from what i have read) ac - yellow 2.5 and white 11.3 Headlight wire loom has brown/white and 0v, blue 0v, white 2.8v and ground. Does this mean the magneto and rectifier are working and no lights because of no active connection on wiring loom. And whould this point to why its also not chargin
  2. Iv given it a try as much as i could with the lowering gaze of light. Iv tried charging the battery and holds well at 12.72v. Iv put the battery in another scoot and on a couple of cranks barely goes under 12v so can handle the load as a new battery would. Next put the battery in the moped that has the light problem. Connect everything, start up and check wires on stator first. Yellow and white wires both read random at idle and increase voltage alongside increase on throttle. Voltage varies between 20 to 60 ac. Ground is self via engine case. Now to check at rectifier. Yellow/white very erratic numbers but on switching MM to dc to read voltage on red (as assuming rectifier has converted ac to dc from yellow wire incoming to red wire outgoing to recharge battery), it reads only voltage from battery with no increase whatsoever. Lastly, the voltage check on the battery with everything connected, shows no increase in voltage assuming charging is not occuring. Front lights wont light up and no lights on dash. Something has gone. Iv tried Changing 2 stators, 2 rectifiers its all the same. Only thing is the harness but continuity checks out on all wires. How do i check if wires are erroneously grounded ? This might be something but could the stator be having an error by grounding itself as when i touch the yellow wire on the stator and put the other MM pin on the white wire on the rectifier, it is reading erratic numbers which in continuity mode does not reach zero as to show correct grounding. Could this be a problem ? I have tried this with very little light available so will try it all again once daylight arrives. But any advice given will be utterly appreciated. Also forgot to mention cannot find a wiring diagram for the specific moped in question. Direct bike viper 50cc.
  3. My motor bike isnt charging and there is no headlights. Ive checked the wires for continuity and i have 3 wires which all show that they are grounded. If i connect the white wire from the stator to the yellow wire on rectifier it shows current of 0.3 and so. Ive also tried this while disconnecting the rectifier and disconnecting the stator wires. Just checking the wires shows that that yellow and white from the magneto all ground to the yellow wire on the rectifier. Does this mean new stator needs, thanks
  4. hi so ive spent nearly the whole day on the moped and havnt got the lights to work or battery to charge. I dont know also how to check if the lights are driven by the stator but this is the checking iv done so far. Ive only checked the yellow and white wire coming out of the stator, the yellow one shows 28v and the white shows 33v but numbers are rapidly changing when throttle applied as expected, done by the multimeter on ac 200 mode. The other wires when disconnected provides no spark but once connected the moped fires up straight away. I check the wire running from the stator to the rectifier and this is what i get, red wire shows same as battery at 12.34v at dc mode. Then on ac mode the yellow wire shows 3.7v, the white wire shows around 6.6v and green is grounded. Is there a short or something somewhere.. The battery isnt chargin in the slightest when checked as it shows the same current as when switched off. Everything else is working apart from front, back and reg light. Everything is making connection and grounded proper. Doe anyone know what else i could try ? A little note so there is also a ballast Resistor connected with one wire going to it and there are 2 loose single black and single red wire which appear to go nowhere.
  5. so iv just checked it again and while i put the multimeter on pole battery poles i also rev the engine not a slight bit of change. Would you know how to test the stator or at least the wires goint out to the lights. its a 4 pin stator colours are 1 red black single wire 2 blue yellow single wire 3 a block connector contain a single yellow and a single white. if u need any more info let me know. But at this point its all that it could be. The is no short. Can i also ask does the engine have to be started in order for the lights to work and how do i figure out if the power enters from stator or direct battery. thanks
  6. so ive checked the earth to all the bulbs all of them are grounded, and the connection is fine. Now what i did, before switching on, checked battery, said 12.34v. Started the moped and checked again while running, said 12.20v. Its got to be the stator as its not even charging the battery. All 3 bulbs which i assume are powered by the stator arnt working. I have no way to check the stator but spark and all else is fine. could this be it ?
  7. hi, how would i go about that. Iv checked all the connections, cleaned them, checked all bulbs. All i get is a every so faint glow in the front light bulb s which fade away slowly. All the indicators work fine.
  8. iv searched in ebay and a few other sites. im after mainly the indicator plastics. the body iv managed to plastic mould everything in place. The indicator boxes are the only things i need. But can i tap on your exprience and could you hazard a guess as to why the front lights and back lights wont work. All indicators work and there is a very faint orange glow on the front headlights but no lights. All wiring has been checked and cleaned. Put new rectifier and a new ballast resistor , any ideas ? thanks.
  9. been all over the usual cant find any direct bike for parts, if u do come across can u let me know. Also wanted to ask considering the body work is quite bad but will holding it strongly with cable tidy be ok for mot ? thanks
  10. do you have any places i could try ? been on ebay and gumtree but cant find the viper model 50cc. I am lookin at a direct bike which is a 125 but the seller did say its not going to fit on my one.
  11. if you have a car license on or after 1 February 2001 and you do a cbt that allows you to ride a moped 49cc under, for the duration of your car license, without l plates and you can take a pillion. You only have to do it once. Anything over 49cc will require cbt every 2 years or until you get your bike license.
  12. I have a 50cc direct bike that looks like its been in a collision. Purchased very cheap and has been worked on so mechanically its sound. The bodywork is not. Is it possible to get plastics that would fit on it without having it to be the same make and model or would i need to find the exact same bike, this would render the bike not fixable as finding a bike with the same body would not be financially sound. Thanks.
  13. i have signed up to a few motor bike websites and nearly everyone one them has not allowed the sign up as i fill in the captcha with success, then an error proceeds to state that my sign up has been flagged as spam ! This site is amongst a few to still be sane ))
