Hi,

Complete newbie here looking for help with buying a cheap clothes.

So, i have never ridden a bike before and don't know if it is something I

will take to so looking for some info before I buy anything.

I found this helmet while looking through the Argos catalogue:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... roducttabs

It conforms to the ECE22.05 and ACU gold safety standards but it is from Argos :!:

I tend to wear boots as a matter of course and have a few pairs of boots like these:

http://www.militarykit.com/products/foo ... a_boot.htm

and these:

http://www.militarykit.com/products/foo ... _black.htm

are they suitable?

These Gloves

This for a jacket:

and these for trousers;

I can't open the links from work!

The thing with helmets is that they have to fit properly

I think I would shy away from buying 1 from Argos.

Specific bike boots would be better but your choice

at the end of the day. Depends on what sort of bike

and what sort of riding/mileage you'll be doing as well

I suppose.

As Rennie said bike gear has to fit properly, the helmet from argos the oxford box ones are fine for that money but it does need to fit, i would always buy a helmet youve tried on the rest of the gear is fine except the boots tbh also as rennie said I would buy bike specific boots

But at the end of the day its your choice!!

If the helmet is certified then it should be okay.... If it fits properly. I would buy it, try it on, if you're not happy with the fit get a refund. Argos have a money back guarantee.

The German boots are better than anything the Brits use, but they aren't designed for use on a motorbike. Military boots are designed to be generally hard wearing, eg. decent sole, good quality leather, good construction. But motorbike boots are designed to be hard wearing where it counts, as well as offering abrasion resistance and also offer protection in the event of coming off the bike.

I was always told that you can't feel anything through riggers, which would make them terrible for riding a motorbike, eg. operating the rear brake, gear shifter. I haven't tried riggers for on the bike, so I could be wrong.

It's strange that the bike gear shop you have linked to doesn't sell boots, I have thought you would have picked up a bargain there.

You would be far better off just doing your cbt. They lend u all the stuff, helmet, gloves, waterproofs, jacket... Mine cost £80 including everything, even brews and biccies! Lol. Tht way u get a full day to ride and see if u like it

I think everyone missed that bit!!

That's the best advice at this stage, borrow the schools gear, you might decide you don't like bikes, then you've splashed out on this gear for nowt.
