Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Currently, i have NO security. Zero. Zilch.Terrible i know. Right now its not a problem as i only go to and from work, which is a secure car park, plus i park it RIGHT near to where i work.I will be buying a disklock-alarm (Xena XZZY-6) which is quite good, my friend has one. Its £30, fair enough. But i really do want/need a chain. For example, nipping to the shops; My long term solution is an Almax chain with squire lock, but that package costs nearly £170! Even if it is unbreakeable, it would break my bank!Anyway, i found this on eBay, is it worth bothering? Just something to keep me going till next year (Jan, Feb...)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OXFORD-OF159-1-5M ... 3a549c6a45 Quote
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Some security is better than none! You will never stop a determined thief, so one who turns up with a set of bolt cropppers is not likely to be swayed by any chain. For the money, it gotta be a good deterrant. Quote
MtotheJ Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 To be honest, for a trip to the shops, e.g. leaving outside Tescos/Morrissons whatever, then you'll be fine with a disc lock. Everyone says it and ive said it numerous times, but if someone wants your bike then theyre going to take it! The security we buy is a deterrent more than a prevention. A disc lock will stop a casual thief but if someone wants your bike then a chain and a disc lock aint going to change their mind. Id say the only time a chain would be worthwhile is if yure leaving it outside at night. Then get a cover, chain it to something anchored and chuck the disc lock on.There is a reason why we have insurance Quote
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I have an Oxford HD chain, only use it to lock it up at night...TBH i dont find its worth the hassle to use the lock part (acts as disk lock) as if you leave it in gear and put the steering lock on, and keep it in a semi busy place you'll find it will probably stop on the spot robbery. But as said no matter what you got on it if they want it they are taking it, so may aswell just leave it at that.but if its in a totally quite back street i may think otherwise.. Quote
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 True, true I doubt anyone except me wants my bike haha. A 14year old green yamaha 125! but really i do want to stop the casual thief, i'm guessing they wont be clued up on my good my chain is Thanks guys! Quote
MtotheJ Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 You'd be surprised! There was someone near me who had a Honda Cub stolen! If you think about it, modern bikes are likely to have immobilisers, alarms, datatag etc. Whereas an old bike is likely not to have any of that! Quote
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Well there are so many opinions and variables to consider, you see when im at college its opposite the college kept usualy with 1 or 2 other bikes at minimum (one is a Yamaha R1 who comes from my way....keeps filtering past me... i WILL catch up one day! ) and its right next to the an exit of a firestation. The other place i keep it is at work, in their own dedicated car park and has CCTV (actually its only up the road from where i park it at college) Its alot more hidden and in view of a restaurants kitchen...I dont really park it anywhere else, besides out side of a pub So you see i dont really need alot of security.. Sorry to ramble just trying to give you an idea as to what you may need or not need Quote
Guest Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Aye Well thanks guys! I'll go ahead and purchase it soon as! Maybe tomorrow, see what payday brings Quote
chiz Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I know this vid has been doing the rounds for a while....."> But it still hits home. Quote
Pete Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Currently, i have NO security. Zero. Zilch... Where was it you said you keep your bike at night again ?Like Dan said, anything is better than nothing. And like Matt said put a cover on it and chain it to something immovable. I've already got a chain, but would also like to upgrade to a 2m Almax, those babies are unbreakable (including bolt croppers - just blunts the jaws!). Quote
Guest Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Hell yeah Pete, I seen that vid too lmao. Quote
