Guest Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 I'm gonna need a new set of rear pads... they're right down to the wear markers... and whilst I'm at it (doing a service this weekend, 11k miles) I'm also going to replace the front set since they probably wont last until the next service.Regarding brands... when I had to replace the pads on the Fazer I opted for Carbone Lorraine pads... they seemed excellent compared to the stock ones on the Fazer, but maybe that was more to do with the fact they were new... dunno.Anyway (getting to the point...) can anyone recommend any other decent pads, or are the stock Suzuki ones generally not too bad? Can anyone recommend any decent online stores, or is it best to just pop to the local dealer? Thanks in advance,Rick. Quote
Pete Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Don't get EBC HH Sintered! All I've heard is bad things about EBC, from the pads never ever bedding in properly (the rear on my old GSX600F didn't bed in no matter what I tried for about 3000 miles until I sold the bike...constant squeaking at slow speeds) to dangerous vision blurring judder at the front end which I've heard a couple of people have had. Someone I know had the vision blurring judder and checked everything, checked the disc by fitting new ones...waste of money because that didn't fix it, god he checked everything until one day he changed the pads. Problem solved. Ferking EBC! STAY AWAY!I've heard plenty of good things about Carbone Lorraine and Ferodo. I don't think you can go far wrong with either of them. If it were me I'd be going for sintered pads and not organic as they tend to give better all round performance. Quote
Guest Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Thanks Pete - I've also heard not so good reviews of EBC.My previous CL pads weren't sintered... but I may opt for them this time :s Quote
Guest Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 The Bandit and SV owners Club recommend SBS sintered street, good disc wear rate and improved braking performance, i use these on my bandit and must admit they are a vast improvement over EBC etc. Quote

Pete Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 I'd just Google "buy SBS sintered street" (or if not Special Boat Service then else) and see what comes up cheapest. It'll be the same from all stockists right, I guess the only thing to change will be the cost? Quote
Guest Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 online try wemoto.co.uk, you'll get some options on sintered, and organic..used, plenty of times, and good vibe from peeps who have used on here 2. Quote
Colin the Bear Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Currently having good results with ferodo. I don't like sintered pads. A soft pad will give better performance. A bit messy with the dust but I reckon they work out cheaper as the disc wear is less. And what a hassle changing the disc is compared to 10 mins changing the pads. (OK maybe 20 mins) Quote

Bought them from my local Suzuki dealer, saves on postage plus i get 10% discount there for being a MAG member. Quote

Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 you can get away with sintered on front and standard on rear, but NOT the otherway round.. Is that becuase you may risk lockig the rear due to the extra braking power? Quote
Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 you can get away with sintered on front and standard on rear, but NOT the otherway round.. Is that because you may risk locking the rear due to the extra braking power?exactly, theres more weight over the front when braking, less on the rear, the bike pivots, under acceleration (lifts front) and on braking (dives), so having harder pads on the rear will cause the rear to lock and drag.. not good, unless your into stunting, prefer stoppies myself... Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Me too So I reckon I'll go with HH sintered pads and see how much difference it makes... of course this means changing pads all round and not just the rear, but the front pads are past their best anyway. I would like to fit these on the weekend so will call around tomorrow for local stockists... Quote

Guest Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 OOo if wemoto ship that quick I'll give em a go Bike is two years old and as far as I know no fluid change (Roadtorque?) so was planning on changing that too.Busy weekend... need to do oil, filter, gap plugs, grease and lube, air filter and adjust chain! Guest Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Update: I ended up ordering some EBC sintered HH pads (despite some bad reviews, and Pete's non-recommendation!) from wemoto and they came two days later, excellent service!I serviced the bike yesterday and this included:New air filterNew oil, oil filter and new drain plugCleaned all calipers, new pads all round and fluidAdjusted chain tensionI was also going to check the plugs but couldnt be arsed, they are so difficult to remove its unreal!Anyway after this work I took the bike out for a run and it always feels so good after an oil change, sounds a bit quieter and the gear changes are so silky smooth! The brakes are bloody awesome, dont know whether its specific to pads or new fluid, but OMG what an improvement. So at least for now its +1 for those EBC pads.I also decided to start removing my red rim tape... put it on a while back and was never convinced... problem is its a bloody bugger to remove, only done one side and that took me the best part of two hours!! It was quicker to do all the brake work FFS!Oh and that new screen is now fitted and makes a huge improvement over the stock... anything above 60mph is a massive improvement... especially over 80mph (on that famous piece of private road we all use ). Quote
Pete Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Nice one Rick, I'm glad it all went well for you (apart from the rim tape!), and that you got a good set of pads by the sound of it! It seems some people have great experiences with EBC and others...not so much The squeaking at low speeds was the problem for me, you might not have it.This all reminds me that I should really crack on with getting mine serviced. I've only done the air filter! Quote
Guest Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I love that stretch of road RE: Rimtape, try a hairdryer. Warm it up a bit, should come off easier. Obviously don't go in with a gas torch.....But the application of heat should help.. Be it hot water, hairdryer etc.HTHDan Quote
