Guest Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I have just bought a 2000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R J1.Im 17 and thus have to restrict the bike to 33bhp. I have looked on the internet and the only site i have found is FI international that wants £180 for 4 washers which i think is a bit steep.Im wondering if anyone has owned a ninja and has restricted it and either knows were i can get a kit thats more sensibly priced or knows the dimensions of the washers so that i can get some made. Also is it just the washers in the restriction or are the jets downrated also?RSVPThanks Quote

MtotheJ Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I got my ZX6R done professionally as the guy was prepared to chuck it in 'for free' if he didnt go down on price on the bike. Mine is obviously restricted slightly differently to what youre looking at as I have a throttle restriction and something in the inlet manifold. FI international are the sole providers for restriction kits so you wont find bike specific ones elsewhere unless, like you said you get the correct stuff made.Im pretty sure there was a whole thread on here not long ago about not needing a certificate and a news item on MCN (not necessarily that reliable!!) here : http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/ ... EPI-120157.The only problems of fitting it yourself are that you will need it dynod (about £30 i think) to prove it is only making 33bhp, if you do a bodge job it will probably mess up fuelling e.g. low mpg (mine is restricted professionally and im pretty certain the fuelling is off). Id personally say, if you can afford it then just bite the bullet and pay someone to do it. If you really cant then just make sure you know exactly how your bike is restricted and you get the exact stuff needed as you could have loads of problems. Quote
Guest Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Yes i think my furling is off tooi have to ride economically to get about 40mpg and i've read 50mpg should be easily done Quote
killmach Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Mines still restricted. Cost me about £230 fitted from a local garage. They get it from f1 international and give you a certificate, job done. Ithink it costs about £50 to have it taken off again, which i still havn't got around to yet. Gonna have mine taken off in january and wiil probably try and sell it on.And before you ask why i havn't had it taken off yet, it's cause iv'e got four kids and times are hard and i gotta get through christmas Quote

Ha ha, i'm actually bored with it now, i passed my test over 3 years ago now but never had the extra money to take the restrictor kit off. Every time i go to get it taken off there's another priority like new battery or new tyre.Unfortunatly my bike is sat under two covers outside and declared sorn until january where i can get it taxed. I've taken the battery off cause it went flat and have recharged it with an oximiser (another £30), i'm just a bit worried about the condensation thing, cause i can't really go and fill her with fuel ot take her for a long run cause i've got no tax Quote
