Which jacket, Alpinestars, Dainese, or Frank Thomas.

Hi.

Ive just found this forum and it looks like a good place. Im just getting ready to do my DAS so im now trying to compare jackets, i found a couple that look resonable but wanted to ask what you think. The jacket will be used all year round apart from when it hits really low figures like -2, then i will use my car so it must be warm still and living in the uk it should be waterproof.

My choices include Alpinestars, Dainese, or Frank Thomas. Ive heard some bad things about dainese's zips and things and Frank Thomas's general build quality and lifespan.

Here a couple i like the look off.

Alpinestars Sigma Drystar Jacket - Very expensive!!! Is it worth it?

Alpinestars T-RC-1 Jacket - Apparently looks good , havent heard if it works though.

Dainese New Panama D-Dry Jacket

Dainese Monaco Waterproof Mens Jacket - Cheap!!

Frank Thomas FTW300 XTi Xtreme Sport Jacket - I think ive seen this before and it looks good but Frank thomas have some bad reviews.

Alpinestars NS-5 Drystar Jacket - 660 denier.

Sorry about the massive list . Any recommendations?

Thanks

p.s. have chose this list as i would like to get the jacket from my local shop.

Hey Fred!

Welcome :thumb: Pop into to newbie section and say Hi!!!

You don't have Hein Gericke on your list. Can I suggest you view these as an option also. They do some bloody good gear.

Saying that, I used to have Frank Thomas gear. It worked, served it's purpose etc. But didn't last as long as the HG stuff I now use.

Good luck!!! And don't be afraid to ask for any help. Also, have a gander at the buying guides at the top of this section.

Thanks for you suggestion. Ive had a look at their website and found these four.

HG DEVON III JACKET B

HG MAXWELL IV WP JACKET BLACK

HG TRAVEL SHELTEX JACKET BLACK

HG NAGANO GORE-TEX PERFORMANCE SHELL JACKET BLACK.

Do any of these stand out more than the ones i posted above?

cheers

I can only personally compare the HG against the Frank Thomas. Some others who use the other stuff you list will be along to offer their 2pence worth eventually!!

A lot of it will also depend on your budget, and I imagine you will go with the best you can afford!!

My budget is around ££700 for all the gear i need (jacket, trousers, gloves, helmet), Havent looked into anything apart from jackets at the moment. I need to save a bit extra for boots but i will be getting them after passing my test probably so it will give me a bit of time.

Dont suppose you know when the new 2010 Hein Gericke catalogue comes out do you?

I have the Alpinestars drystar jacket and trousers, best kit i have had in 30 years of riding. Worth every penny.

Have had Heine Gericke stuff before and it doesn't come close to the Alpinestars

Thanks Fazer for posting.

So ive found out from everyones opinions alpinestars is better than HG and HG is better than Frank Thomas. :) Now which alpinestars :D.

Ive found the

alpinestars sigma drystar jacket

alpinestars space jacket

and the new

Alpinestars Ransom Jacket

The space jacket doesnt look as 'cool' but if it does a better job then i dont mind. Any thoughts?

Thanks you!!!

p.s. what is drystar
