ohmagain Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 My bike has been sitting for some time now, I have changed the battery and the sparks. but she turns over but don't start. Along with the worry I've flooded the engine (which i will leave the sparks out for 24hrs) i was wondering if the fuel could have degraded and should i change it. How long can unleaded petrol be left for? Quote
Guest Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 i've left a bike for 4 months, then gone back and its been fine..how longs the bike been left? Quote
Gamer Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Flooded? - not a big deal for carbed engine.Turn it few times and it will clear (no plugs = quicker but messy)While plugs out - turn it and see you have sparks on each of plugs - one part sorted = you have ignition. If you can flush the tank - do itCan change fuel pipes - it is only rubber and can get swollen ( manufacturer recomendations are for 6 years or so to change fuel lines (cars and bikes the same)Last thing will be carburetors got dirty from fuel residing on the bottom (water = corrosion, dust = blocked pipes) Quote
ohmagain Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 I've just done a proper count up and believe that it it probably close to six month since the bike last run, (don't time fly). Though did top up about 3 months ago. Will try the starting with the plugs out to see if there is fuel left inside (thanks for that tip), will also check the pipework and fuel filter this weekend, have checked all sparks and they are all working.I noticed some kind of guey stuff at the bottom of my air filter a while ago, so I cleaned out and changed air filter but now see fibres from the filter around the housing (am thinking i should have washed and dried before using).I don't have my manual at the moment so cleaning the carb may have to wait.
