Coume Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Hello,Ok, I need to give a good clean to my chain but then, which oil should I use? After some reading and googling, it looks like the Wurth Dry chain and the Sdoc S100 Motorcycle White Chain Spray could be some good options but what do you reckon?Which oil brand/type would you recommend from your experience? Thanks in advance.Ludo Quote
Guest Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 As said in kettenmax thread, use the kettenmax and PARAFFIN to clean your chain, then to be honest, my belief is any chain lube will do the job. They all cost between £6 and £12 a can, and do the same job lol. Dan on here is our local chain cleaning wizard, and he uses Motul chain lube, in a red can So try that! lol. Quote
Guest Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 +1, i use engine oil too, only cos i'm too cheap for buying cans of chain lube Quote
Guest Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Paraffin (although i dont clean the chain that much, only if its starting to build up road grime) + what ever chain lube the shop down the road has Quote
Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 you can buy scottoiler oil, but engine oil works just as good. if you are on about white wax type of lube, it sticks but so will the cr&p with it, which wont do the o-rings much good... Quote
Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Yup all that loob and road grime/stones are like a cutting paste for ur sprockets!Like we've all said, cheap and cheerful solutions are the best solutions, why pay £10 for a can of sticky shit when u can get a a couple of litres of oil and paraffin for the sameamount? Only other expense are some rags and a few cheap toothbrushes... and iffunds allow the kettenmax does a good job. Quote
Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I must have used nearly every type of chain lube over the years, and being a tight git, it's hard to say this(cos it ain't cheap), but Wurth Dry chain lube is by far the best I've come across. It's a clear spray on wax, with teflon to lubricate the pins and rollers and a wax to protect the outside of the chain. The wax is amazing asa it picks up no grime and doesn't fling off onto the wheel or tyre, even on hot days. Any old lube must be cleaned off before applying the stuff which can be done with paraffin, but it really has me converted and I won't go back to oils or sticky sprays again.. Quote
