Guest Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Hia!Have a lovely jacket given to me by my Dad, but its far too big for me, and incomfrotable when riding.I was considering buying another, but they are v pricey and I kinda feel guilty about it cos my Dad gave it to me as a gift. So...then I thought about alterations, has anoyone done this? Is it possible? Its very thick and bulky.... Quote
cypek Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) I don't suppose you would save a lot. You would have to find a specialist who would know how to alter it and that may not be cheap, if possible at all, depends how much too big it is. I have bought my leather jacked from ebay for £12 incl. p&p and few days later another one for £20 They are in almost perfect condition. You can find real bargains there and you don't really have to buy a new one. Edited April 30, 2010 by cypek Quote
Guest Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 There's plenty of people do leather repairs and alterations. I had mine repaired after a small trip along the tarmac where I managed to wear through a couple of parts but it was fairly cheap. If you're in the North West area I can give you the details of who did it.As the previous guy said, it may be cheaper to buy another jacket, but I appreciate the sentimental value and if it's only 20-30 quid to get it altered then it's bound to be worth it. Guest Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Thanks for the replies!Well I had a look for new leather jackets and they were very pricey.Second hand appears to be a no go area for me, nothing is small enough!! I spent a lot of time going thro eBay and various classifieds, but nowt...Anyway, I then decided to find people who still did clothing alterations, and I was quite lucky to find one very near me (good excuse to take the bike out! ) and they are taking it in for me, which is ideal as I get to keep this jacket now. It's £55, but I kinda feel its worth it, I love the style of it and its dead comfy too, Im a new rider and not particularly confident so dont want any awkward fitting clothing to put me off!! Quote
Lumor_uk Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Sounds like you need to bulk up Saying that though I have XL trousers but I'm a 34" waist, medium jacket and 39" chest both fitting just about. Quote
Roadtorque Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think you are probably a young lad, so put the jacket your dad gave you on one side for longish while, believe me, some time down the road it will fit you fine,,I went to the Northwhich Bike show last weekend, there were stands there selling boots, helmets & jackets, plus loads of other stuff,,a lot of these had good value for money leather jackets with armour panels for £50/£70 pounds, so you don't have to pay the earth,, Quote
