mealexme Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I have a crack on 1 of my panels. If i push the panel together, u can hardly even tell its there. I have come up with a cheap and easy way to solve it, although people i speak to dont think it will work.An old milk carton (the plastic ones)Aeroldite.Do a bit of patchwork on the inside of the panel (cut a bit of milk carton, or any other sort of plastic and aeraldite it onto the panel)Would it work? fredc Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Araldite won't stick to milk carton plasticWhat's the panel made from Quote
Guest Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 The idea is sound, but like ya man suggests, milk carton not ideal. you'd want something a bit more substantial. Quote
TC Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Try this stuffhttp://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165625Rub Talc over your hands and arms before use to stop the itching Quote
mealexme Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Awesome, thanks guys.and fredc, I have no idea... some sort of plastic lolAnyone have any other ideas what to use instead of milk carton or fibre glass. I just want something that will hold because tbh i cba with the ride into town to get anything. Could there be anything I would likely to have around the house? Anyone have any ideas? If not, then will stop y halfords next time i go into town. Thanks for the link to there site Also, if I was to use fibre glass, could i still use areldide? or would i have to buy some special stuff to bond it? Quote
TC Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Also, if I was to use fibre glass, could i still use areldide? or would i have to buy some special stuff to bond it? Get some resin for the fibreglass (if a jobs worth doing) Quote
mealexme Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 A question on halfords QandA section for a fribreglass repair kit"Will this repair snapped motorbike plastics?Q: Would this Glass Fibre repair my motorcross plastics that are snapped?9 months agobyJamesF - LancingAnswersStaff AnswerA: Glass fibre is not suitable for repairing plastics. If you have a clean break then you may be able to use an adhesive to repair it."Thanks for the idea though. Anyone got any other cheap and simple ideas? Quote
2fast2soon Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 A CD/DVD (old/blank/someone else's) would be more substantial than a milk carton, however I'm not sure how long it would hold?!?Nothing like homemade repairs Quote
spunky1976 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 have a look at this mate with regards to fibreglasshttp://www.sportrider.com/suspension_settings/hands_on/146_9510_damaged_bodywork_repair/index.htmldon't know if its what your after though Quote
mealexme Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Nothing like homemade repairs Too rite! its only cuz the crack is nearing the edge and im scared it will snap off (although its likely it wont, im just paranoid lol)I have loads of blank CD's. I also had one that i found in my drawer with all sorts of random sh*t on it. It had ring tones from different phones (e.g nokia, samsung etc) so it didnt come from a phone company. It also had random logo's for various things, some comical clips, some football clips (all under 1 min long) and some songs.. just found it in a drawer and it doesnt belong to anyone in the house... now i dunno wer it is. its like its disapeared just as it apeard.. anyway, that was a bit off topic, just wanted to tell yall lol.Think I will try the CD idea, however is it not a it smooth? D'ya think i should sand it a it first to roughen it up? Quote

Guest Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 try plastech, especially good if its not under any stress. Quote
softwarez Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Depending on how strong you need the bond to be.. I would use the Fibre Glass as mentioned. (It will work, despite the halfords response). This is if you use it from the inside, anyway.. (unseen side) otherwise it will be ugly.Secondly, I would use a strong piece of mesh and araldite. Quote
Voodoo Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I've used superglue before now, and it worked fine for years. Quote
Guest Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 plastic weld using plastic and a soldering iron.. coke bottle lid would suffice.. youtube for tutorial Quote
