mealexme Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 OMG, this is like the third post I have done in 2 days...Is it legal to derestrict a sym jet 100cc. I am 17 and am on a provisional licence... I am really not sure on this one cuz I would have thought there would be a good reason to restrict them, but people openly sell bikes stating they are derestricted, and my local garage can derestrict them, so surely if it was illegal, they wouldnt be doing it. Anyway, if it is illegal, what are the penalties? would insurance pay out? can it actually be tested to see if it is derestricted? How likely would it be that these checks are done?Cheers. Quote
Guest Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 What power would it create? A prov license allows up to 14.5 (ish) bhp and up to 125cc's. If is under that bhp, then it would be legal for your to ride. Quote
Guest Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Well, a 100cc probably is already at the 14bhp mark. If you de-restrict it, you'll be illegal. Put it that way As said, everyone does it. Quote
bex Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 the only reason you can get it de-restricted is cos its possible for you to ride it on a FULL license. seeing as your on a provisional you will be illegal so therefore leave as. it invalidates your insurance and a copper that knows will notice and it can be checked. not worth it.
