Faulty HotGrips?

Hi Folks

Can somebody help!

Fitted 2007 Hotgrips to my Suzuki GSX600FY they are the 2007 model with 4 leds to select power level and ON/OFF button

Fairly straightforward to fit but slow due to the fairing

Negative to battery terminal and live feed from rear brake light switch i.e. no power flowing when ignition switched off only when ignition on All other connections are snap in as supplied by Oxford

Grips worked fine on testing but if I turn on the lights or flash the PASS button the grips switch off. I then need to stop the bike and restart it because the HotGrip controllor is programmed for this. When I restart bike no problem grips working great

The grips dont switch off if I push the horn, use indicaters or apply front or rear brakes

My thoughts are

1. a faulty grip temp controller

2. battery on bike not 100%

but Im only guessing

thanks

Hi,

I would connect the supply to the heated grips onto the switched side of the main ignition switch via an inline fuse, without checking wiring diagrams l cannot give you reason for your present fault, but it obvious that when you press the brake switch the supply to the grips is broken and you then have to energise the circuit, don't think you have a problem with the grips as l think they would not work at all.

Hope this helps

P.S there bliss when they are working

I am surprised you haven't blown a fuse! I would suggest that the heaters drawing so much current when you press the pass it loads the system up and voltage drops sufficient to reset or turn the heater controller off. I like Chrissb6 suggested would connect to the ignition (via fuse). The non failure with horn etc is because they are on a different fuse/circuit.

Hope this helps

Sorry Folks,

Literally just in the door after a hol. in Spain.

Should have posted sooner but I have the prob. sorted, thanks to an electrical Guru in the Suzuki Owners Club.

It's OK to take the feed from the back brake light switch, but you must fit a relay. The brake wire is only used to trigger the relay.

The grips work perfectly now. Can't use the 4th (max. position) it's too hot!

Thank you everyone for all your help.

Scott
