Car shopping help

Hey guys. First of all, no, i'm not selling the bike to get a car, i just want a upgrade :)

My budget's around 5k, 6k at a push if the car's worth it. It needs to be trade aswell as i want to p/x my little Citroen C2. The general requirements are that it looks good, has a nice interior, nippy, and get around 30mpg.

The insurance group isn't really an issue though for now. So far i've been looking at the Fiesta ST, clio sport etc. So generally 'hot hatches' is all i've been looking at for now. any suggestions are appreciated :)

I'm 19! Unfortuantly i'm still in the 'diesel is the fuel of the devil' mindset.

I've looked at ibiza cupra, but the back ends a bit off putting. And the civic's too boy racery, not an image i'd want to put across

I used to be like you, But after having a few diesels that leave a fair amount of cars standing and still return 50mpg I seen sense. The Leon FR Tdi was awesome, like a little go kart. Got the mondeo st just now, Which to be honest i hate, will never buy a ford again. Regularly drive 530d, 330d and x5's. All awesome motors but the last 3 are a bit pricier :)

Best thing is to just go try a few out. It's good fun at the least even if you dont buy one

As much as i enjoy my bikes stu, i've always wanted a nice car with decent performance. Now, don't shoot me for this, but smiles can be had in a car sometimes too (obviously not as big a smile as a bike :) )

Why go for a bland modern box? Go for something with a bit of character, that you hardly see on the road.

And keep a bit of money to one side to keep it going.

Modern classics...

Or even 'proper' classics...

Sure, none of the above cars will win a race with a Leon FR or somesuch.

But they have character. They're a bit more raw. Easy to work on.

And you won't be just another person in yet another anonymous Euro-box.

Only if he neglects it. Neither of my 25 yr old bikes break down, yet I read about plenty of modern ones which do. It's the same with cars! :)

And anyway - what's the RAC for?!

In the last 5 years i've ran 3 xr2i's none have ever let me down, and all can be fixed with some basic spanners and a hammer. Great laugh as well. And never paid more than 200 quid for one.in fact I only paid for one, I was given another for fitting a car stereo and I swapped one for a set of alloy wheels. Looked on fleabay tho and they seem to be disappearing fast. I sold one for 450 (the one I bought), one for 600 and the other for 300 with no t&t (amazing what you can do with t cut and a weekend's tlc!)... Bargain motoring!

hot hatch

The insurance will cost you 5k, never mind the car!

Mines 3k at 18 no ncb and 2 claims

I've never paid more than 1k for insurance in my last 10 years of driving! That includes a 1990 celica gti gen 5 (170bhp &140mph), my xr2i's, escort cabriolets, mag featured escort gti, Saxo vtr, AX GT500, Fiesta si mk3, original mini (first car), a couple of sierra sapphires, amongst a few of the 25 plus cars I've owned in that time!
