CBF...Small Issues

Recommended Posts

So ive had my CBF 125 for nearly a year now and all is great with it apart from 2 things....

1st thing being my gears... It doesnt happen alot but sometimes im in 2nd gear my bike will suddenly jump into Neutral which can cause a problem especially when im taking a corner...A friend of mine told me that when i change to 2nd gear i should use more force when i lift the gear peg but i still get the problem every now and then....

2nd thing being my neutral gear....As im going to park up ill stop in 1st gear with my clutch held in, but sometimes as long as my engine is running the bike wont go into neutral (I have to switch off the engine and put the bike into neutral)...Its not a really consistent problem but can become a bit annoying (Especially when im in a hurry)...

Its not a massive issue but both problems seem to be in the one part of the bike :?

If anyone can help me with this id be very grateful!

Ive knocked it into neutral while cornering before, doesn't happen anymore as Im more definite with the change.

Sometimes I cant get it into neutral from 1st gear, so I roll back and accelerate forwards, this often lets me put it into neutral.

I used to have the same problems with my old bike.

Jumping out of gear I believe it purely because it hasn't engaged properly so I believe you friend is correct.

Not finding neutral maybe due to worn tooths?? or selector??? I maybe wrong so wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along. (it may just be you skipping past neutral also)

Its brand new with less than 2,000 miles on it, I hope thats not the case!

Not being able to engage neutral is usually down to clutch dragging. Check the free play on your clutch cable and the lever near the clutch cover. The clutch may need stripping and cleaning. Jumping out of gear could be more serious. On a higher mileage bike it could be worn dogs on the gear pinions or a worn selector fork or drum. If it's only done 2000 miles I'd take it back to the dealer or make a warranty claim. Deffo check the clutch cable first though and see if anything is stopping the gear shift returning after engaging secod gear

Its just one of those things you have to live with...

Swap the oil out for some new fresh good stuff and you may see an improvement. Fresh oil tends to help out as the formula hasn't degraded due to age or heat so it lubes everything up as it should. :thumb:
