JamieK Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 a few quick questions..anyone who has do a mod 2 recently, is it the same as in car tests now as you have to follow signs yourself for so long?is it just yourself and the examiner on the road?is the any certain thing you need to learn for or is it just safe road riding? (lifesaver, mirrors & signals?)any other info people have would be much appreciated Quote
haz_pro Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Done my mod2 last week.I was given directions in advance twice, i.e. turn right, go forwards at roundabout, turn left. How ever road signs were not really needed. Not sure if this is the same for every test? Its just being safe on the road, that is all they want to see. If you have a look on your test sheet for mod1 then you will see what you can get minors for, and it also speaks about mod2 on it i think.Good luck, ride safe and you will be fine. Quote
JamieK Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 i was just reading this and its on about independent riding..http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_178328well id love to know how i did on my mod 1 but the examier didnt press hard enough on the paper so i can see the speeds i did and the i did a u turn and thats it!! ill have another read through to see if i can see anything..its it the so called 'easy' bit of getting the licence or not?? thanks, i should be ok but just want to make 100% sure im ready for the test Quote
haz_pro Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Sorry should have been more clear. I dont mean your marks from the test, i mean its the same test sheet for mod1 and mod 2, they just use different parts. So on your mod1 test sheet you can see the stuff you could possibly get minors for in mod2. Also as i said there is some info on there about mod2 i think! I read it the night before my test just to get in the mindframe.Yeah it is the independant riding, im not sure maybe i did have to use road signs, i cant remember needing to though, it went very quickly!Im not sure what part is easier, as i found the mod1 very easy, but with the mod2 i was alot more nervous! Quote
JamieK Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 my nerves where sky high when the girl before me came off her bike during mod 1 so i should be fine with nerves:Pi get you so that mod 1 sheet is a tick sheet for mod 2 basically, that should make things more clearand im not to fussed about the using signs its just the test centre is in the centre of nottingham and i hate city centres! but i suppose i should be ok with itit wont be for a couple of weeks because my boss wont let me have half a day off to do the test unless i can get a last minute one on a thursday when im meant to be at college thanks for your help Quote
haz_pro Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 wow, how did she manage that? on he avoidance i guess?Yeah, part of the sheet is mod1, but most of it is mod2! i had a read through just to see what i would get minors for. (most are obvious)i was lucky as my test centre was in the middle of no where (burgess hill), so most roads were just country lanes really good!good luck when you do yours! Quote
JamieK Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 yeah she must of touched the front brake and the ground was wet!ill have a look on the sheet then and ill prob get it booked tomorrow for sometime i live in derbyshire so i know country roads like the back of my hand!! but the closest test centre is nottingham about an hours ride away! thanks!! iiisecondcreep Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 For the independant ride the examiner will tell you to follow signs for a destination. You won't get marked down if you go the wrong way, as long as your riding is safe. As with the car test, you'll be asked a few safety questions at the start. Its mainly just safe riding, you'll probably be asked to pull over a few times, there is also a hill start and a start from behind an obstacle where you'll be asked to pull up behind a parked car, so don't stop too close! Quote
haz_pro Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I was asked to pull over about 6 times, thought I had done something wrong since he kept asking me! Quote
dingosteve Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Hold on let me get this straight, its doesnt matter if you dont follw his directions as you can argue you didnt hear instruction.... so if you come to an area your not sure about just drive as safe as you can , hell even if he wanted you go into the junction but you were unsure where to go , but you knew straight ahead was safe enough, you can get away with it??? thats gotta be open to abuse, namely il abuse it if i have to lol! haz_pro Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Yes thats correct, i was meant to turn left, then right, then left, but i forgot to do the final left.I passed fine, you just have to ride safely, and correct any mistake safely, which in my case was turning down to a minor road, doing a u turn, and then going back onmyself and turning right! caretaker Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I think the main reason for doing the independent riding section is to see if you can look for road signs and follow them without forgetting the normal safe riding habits you should be doingIts just a bit of multitasking nothing more Quote

JamieK Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 ive heard that its best to do as the examiner says just to keep them happy and more on your side well i can drive and i can find where i want to go using signs so i should be fine its just i passed driving test just before they introduced the independent driving but i should be fine mod 2 all booked but cant get it until the middle of march so now its booked ill be checking daily if there's any cancellations, cause im having them!! haz_pro Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Yeah well i have been driving for nearly 3 years so i can follow road signs, i just forgot, probably because of nerves haha.If you can remember do what they say, dont purposly diresgard their instructions, but at the same time if you make a mistake, try not to worry about it as it wont be a fail! (Unless you done something unsafe!). Quote
