Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've been driving a car on the road for 18 years. I notice some things have changed with regards to testing etc so, would I still need to take the theory test? Also, am I correct in thinking to sit my test I can ride up to a 125cc or is it a 250cc?I've driven all over the world and am a very confident driver, what is out there on offer just to get me through this test asap, but not going to break the bank, options?I travel a lot for work intl, and so is the British license pretty much authority internationally, I only ask as my wife is from the caribbean and she is not authorised to drive in the UK on that. Infact I am only authorised to drive out there for three months before having to sit the test over there (pointless info but a factoid for you).Whatever info you can give me would be appreciated. Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Everything is pretty much covered in here for you:http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... 47&t=31635In a nutshell, yes you need to do a CBT (compulsory basic training to let you ride up to a 125cc on L plates), yes you need to do a theory and a hazard perception test, then the way you train is up to you. Two licences currently available, a restriced licence (up to 33bhp) and unrestricted licence. Have a read of the above thread, anyquestions, stick em in here Welcome by the way, why not pop a hello in the newbie section? Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Cheers for that.Looks like I need to find somewhere to do this DAS process then. From my understanding of that link they provide everything including the bike so I don't have to buy a small bike just to test on, they can organize my CBT and all that stuff right through to tests and then I can pass and will not be not be restricted at all? I can buy a big bike and off I go, right? If this is the case where can you recommend I attend this DAS process in the Northeast sometime within the next month if it can be done that quick (Northumberland, Newcastle upon tyne area)?Once again, cheers,Scrub Quote
Guest Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 You've got the nub of it fella. As for schools in your area, I canna help, being this far south!!You may be lucky and get a local post in here, alternatively start a thread asking for school reccommendations in your area.To be fair though, if you go for a wander around some local bike shops/dealers, normally the local schools will have fliers there on the counter. Also, the staff generally won't steer you wrong, so ask them if they have heard good or bad things about any of the schools. Some of them are based within the dealers as well. Quote
