Guest Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hello, i just bought a Yamaha xt 250, when you move the kick start down there is no resistance at all, it does however spring back up!any ideas as to what might have gone wrong. i suspect it is failing to engage with a cog! Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 are you sure it is not turning the engine over as the xt250 has automatic decompression cable connected up to help you kick it over,so also check the cable is not holding the exhaust valve open all he time Quote
Guest Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I amsure its not turning the engine over, just moved the kickstart down by hand with no effort at all.there is no decompression cable attached. kick lever will spring back on its own. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 sounds like you need to drain the oil and remove clutch case then and have a look whats going on as the gear the kickstart shafts sits onshould be linked straight onto clutch cage gear so one or the other has failed either way casing off for closer look Quote
Guest Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 many thanks for advise, workshop manual arrived today, clutch cover off when i get a free moment betweenschool runs.Kick start gear missing 5 teeth, idler gear and shaft missing, welding marks inside crankcase! Another e-baynightmare, you know who you are in Cumbria, a curse on you and your house. Quote
