ENGBen Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Now i know this post is going to make me look and sound even more useless than i usually do...BUTWhen i bought my bike (and knew nothing about bikes), i ended up buying it with a topbox due to a suggestion by my dad who thought it would be useful for getting my things to work.Truth is ive never used the sodding thing and it has rarely ever even been attached to my bike. I just use my backpack for work stuff.Below is a picture of the ugly thing attached to the back of my bike that the topbox clips onto....http://img35.imageshack.us/i/imag0140d.jpg/And here is a picture of the bolt things I cant undo!!!!http://img696.imageshack.us/i/imag0141n.jpg/http://img138.imageshack.us/i/imag0142e.jpg/They are not tight, but when i turn them it turns the screw they are attached too as well! And there is no access to the top of the screw to hold it in place.I have tried using a pair of pliers to hold the screw from the bottom but that is proving ineffecive too. Its hard to do this with my dodgey wrist.Anyone got any suggestions on how i can get this ugly thing off my damn bike once and for all?PS: I didnt fit it, some idiot sales guy from an official yamaha dealership fitted it. bullet5 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 First thing you need to know is the bolt heads are accessible. On the top of the plate you've got two large covers, that will move around very slightly (one front one rear). These (by the looks of it) are held on with the screws you see ontop, and probably some clips underneath, (part of the moulded plastic) so use a flat bladed screwdriver to hold these back while you then simply pull the cover off. (After you've removed the two screws ontop) Start at one end, and work across (assuming there are more than one clip) The bolt heads will then be exposed for you to remove. Hope this helps,Bullet5. I hate you But thanks lol What happened to our ride out today lol?i checked my tyres too... the garage pump said they were 28 rear and 24 front... they supposed to be 19 rear and 25 front... but the gauge is accurate to within 0.5 psi , so so far tyres are looking ok. I'd bring that down a bit if I were you, or get it checked again with a different gauge! A few PSI either side is fine, but that's almost 10! Your tyres will be being stressed and will square off rapidly, if your not carrying extra weight on the back. But even if you were i'd doubt that a 125 needs a 10PSI increase in rear tyre to support another person. Please report back if you encounter another problemo I don't know what happened to the trip :/ It's currently slightly wet, but should dry up a bit. I'm not going to finish the bandit's calipers today (by the looks of it) as working on the carpet in the living room and then got to finish a math assignment. But i'll work as quickly as I can Quote

But i'll work as quickly as I can That was just a typo. The back is suppose to be 29 and the front 25.... probably slightly higher for a heavy object like me.As for the stupid thing, i finally managed to take it off haha the bike looks so much better now. Thanks for spotting that thing i didnt spot haha. The reason it took so long is my father in laws garage is just bloody terrible. Took me ages to find the right tool, because i needed a ratchet not a screw driver like i first assumed.Either way, the thing is off Quote
bullet5 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 haha, i was getting slightly worried then - And good job. But you'll want it back on, as you'll soon get bored of carrying a bag with a lappi in Quote
Guest Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 That cover thing on the top of the plate pops off.Look at it from underneath... Poke through the holes in the plastic with a screwdriver or something, and the disk/cover thingy will pop off, exposing the screws.EDIT: Also, sell the plate on eBay, most likely get £10 to £20 for one in good nick.
