Guest Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hi i'm new to this forum, and after having a little bit of trouble with my bike, decided I needed someone more bike knowledgable to talk to other than my over panicking mum (she don't like bikes lol).Anyway, I got a chinese import as my first 125cc bike, and have had it for 7 months no problem...well the problems have started now. Problem 1. The gears occassionally get stuck. Sometimes when changing the bike into 3rd gear it drops out of it again which causes the bike to rev and come into a standstill, like when you accidentally knock it into neutral instead of 2nd. The other gear problem is that sometimes when I am changing the bike from 4th into 5th the gear lever does not move, which means I then have to put the bike back into 3rd then back up the gears until it eventually allows me to get it into 5th.Problem 2. As the title suggests there is a clicking noise in the front of the bike when I am moving, it is more noticable at slower speeds up until about 40mph, because then the bike makes more noise than the clicking noise. I am not very mechanically minded so I am not sure what I am meant to be looking for. The clicking noise sounds like a keyring vibrating against metal, thinking of this i lifted the keyring on my bike key up when driving along but the clicking noise persisted so that possibility was scrapped. Apart from the gears being a bit of a nuisance, the problems do not seem to affect the bike in any particular way, I am going to be getting a new bike soon (Honda bros 400cc) after I have done my A2, but as this is the bike I am still using i still want to keep it healthy and in good condition. Sorry about the essay, but any help you guys/girls might have will be very helpfulThanksKerrie Quote
Susieque Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hi Kerry & welcome to TMBF Sorry - I'm mechanically challenged so can't help there! But why not pop into Newbies & introduce yourself? If you put your location into your profile, there may be a member local to you that can help you out. We're nice like that!! Quote
cypek Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I had a similar problems with gears on my chinese bike. The solution was to adjust chain tension as it kept stretching and was getting loose. Every time I adjusted it gears were starting to work a lot better Sorry, don't know what may be this clicking noise. Mine was clicking, knocking, vibrating and was extremely noisy in general so I heard are most other chinese bikes. I wouldn't worry about it yet, at least until you notice any other problem that may be related to that noise Try to find out where exactly it is coming from. Is it from the front of the engine or maybe front end of bike (suspension, brakes). Is it there when you're stopped or only on the move? Is it louder/going away when braking? And as Suzie says, put your location in your profile. Someone may be near you and would be willing to give you a hand Quote
Chrissb6 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hi,a sloppy gear change - gearbox can be just a simple chain adjustment, ticking noises from the front might be the brakes binding or a wheel bearing starting to fail. If your not shure what to look for, l strongly suggest you have both looked at by someone in the know before untold damage is done. Quote
