Guest Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I'm looking for a textile jacket and trousers, with removable lining to be used as much time of the year as possible and elbow, shoulder, back and knee protectors, and also good abrasion resistance. It would also be nice to be able to choose bright colours for better visibility. Can you recommend a place where I can get a decent whole kit for under 180 GBP?. I found real bargains in ebay, but I don't know about the quality. Quote
stevie16v Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I bought a kit 2 years ago from ebay, Paid about 150. Cracking, Used it all year round, Although i wear waterproofs when its raining too. I'll have a look for the link Quote
stevie16v Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLUE-Protective-M ... 3302wt_905I sent them my sizes and had it in well under the 2 weeks, think it was about a week. Good bit of kit, Just doesn't have the fashionable name tags. Came with all the protection you need and is ce/tuv approved Quote
Throttled Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 This has all you want, except the high viz parthttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JF-Pelle-Motorbik ... 4a98843fe7and you can get the matching trousers. They have leaked once during a sodden 2 hour lesson and it was mainly rain getting into the gap between gloves and cuffs. They reamined unscuffed when I had my minor crash. Quote

Guest Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Thank you guys. Great links.I've also been searching. And found this outlet offers in George White:Lewis Gear Jackets:Men: http://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/motorbike ... acket.htmlWomen: (I'm also looking for somthing for my girlfriend): http://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/womens-mo ... acket.htmlI never heard about Lewis Gear but it doesn't look bad. Only the back protector is missing, but they have the pockets. In the same shop, trousers from Frank Thomas:http://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/motorbike ... users.htmlhttp://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/womens-mo ... r-leg.htmlIt's interesting the zip in the jacket to attach the trousers. Do they have to be the same brand to be compatible? Quote
Throttled Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 My RST jeans have a zip and and since zips are the same, I assume any will attatch to any. But you need a friend to zip you up. Quote
Guest Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 What about Frank Thomas stuff?. It seem there are good discounts in the George White outlet:http://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/motorbike ... acket.htmlhttp://shop.georgewhite.co.uk/motorbike ... -grey.htmlThey don't mention anything about back protection pocket but I assume they have. Also checked Cycle Spirit and Probiker from Louis.de?. Have anyone tried them? They seem to be cheap for a 600D textile.http://www.louis.de/_30fc2363bb0c5b7b55 ... _gr=208750http://www.louis.de/_30fc2363bb0c5b7b55 ... _gr=208759Anyone tried them? Quote
queen bodecia Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I would think the problem with buying gear on Fleabay is that you have no idea whether it will fit and fit is the most important aspect of motorcycling gear. However, if the retailer in question has a sensible returns policy, then there should be no problem.Within your budget, check brands such as Hein Gericke, Jofama and JTS. Waterproofing, double stitching and CE armour should be standard, then as prices rise you'll find additional features such as removable warm linings, treble stitching, kevlar panels in high stress zones, climate control features, waterproofed seams and pockets. You'll probably find back protectors are not always a standard feature. Many riders wear separate back protectors, or you can usually purchase them to retro-fit to the jacket. Quote
Guest Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I've checked Hein Gericke and they have interesting offers. Thank you.By the way, I've always thought Cordura and Polyester were about the same but a friend told me he thinks they are totally different and Cordura have better abrasion resistance. If we compare a 500D cordura and 600D polyester, which one is more resistant? dimmers Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 twowheel.co.uk/rst-moto-pilot-textile-sport-jacket-blue.htmltwowheel.co.uk/rst-pro-series-ventilator-ii-4-season-sport-jeans.html(sorry i can't put the direct links in - forum rules)total £215, bit over budget, but all year round textiles, that zip together with a full 360 degree zip, and it's all new!i wear RST gear, and think it's really good value for money (i have the moto pilot jacket myself). Guest Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Thank you dimmers, those look interesting.I've been looking around and I found out that Cordura and Polyester are different things. I thought 500D Cordura was the same as 500D Polyester and that Cordura was just a trademark of Polyester, but it seems that has much more resistance than polyester. In fact, in Louis.de I've seen Cordura 500D jackets are more expensive than 600D Polyester. I've seen these on ebay of Cordura600D. I asked the seller if it has the Dupont Cordura label. He said it has the genuine Cordura label but not by Dupont:http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... _512wt_901 Quote
queen bodecia Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Definitely look for Cordura or Ballistic textile gear. Polyester is basically just a banner term for several different polymer-based fabrics and I doubt it would offer the same levels of abrasion protection as Cordura or Ballistic.Check out these wiki definitions:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordurahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballistic_nylonI would still recommend that motorcycle gear in either fabric is supplemented with CE approved armour, back protector and kevlar inserts in high stress zones.
