Guest Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Well I booked and paid my CBT today, and I do it on Saturday. Only thing is I'm extremely nervous. I've never rode a motor Bike before, especially on the roads so dunno what to expect. They said it's aimed at people with no experience. So what can I expect that day? Quote
Dave33 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 CBT is exactly what it says on the tin! compulsary BASIC training. They will take you through everything you need to know at your pace, in my experiance they are a very relaxed and also very enjoyable if you relax you will have no problems if you can show your confident on the bike and on the road by the end of the day :) Quote
toon83 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 welcome but we have a section dedicated to thisalso postpone your cbt and have a few lessons then do the cbt, it will help loads and your cbt will be easy and cheaper. Quote
Guest Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I had never rode a bike before my CBT, you'll be fine Quote
Rollingskies Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 No you don't need any lessons. Most schools offer it for £100-150 for a 1-2 day course depending on your skill and ability. I had never ridden before and did mine all on one day. My sister did hers over two. Enjoy the day. Quote
Big Stu Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Just relax and enjoy it. my first time on a bike was my CBT and when I started 10 mph was too fast! Once the nerves settled I loved every minute Quote
Guest Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I was reading the CBT section, and most people said they had a driving license which was checked. I'm doing mine on a 125cc manual, and I only have a provisional driving licens, on the back it has cat A and a bike, so does it cover it. I'm 21 mind. Quote
Rollingskies Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Yeah thats fine. When you have done your CBT you can go right out and buy a 125. Most people here will recommend you do your test though for your own safety and there is a quite a difference on insurance premiums too. Seeing as you are 21 you are old enough to go on to do your test on a big bike and then you can ride anything you like. For now though, see if biking is your thing. I did mine in the pouring rain and wind in November. I knew if that didn't put me off nothing would. I was right. Quote
Dave33 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I had never riden a bike on my first CBT either and passed, u'll be fine. Good luck Im not sure having lessons would actually make your CBT any cheaper anyway? Quote
Colin the Bear Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Compulsory Basic Training. It is a lesson. Why would you have lessons before taking a lesson? Quote
littlecat Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 hmm dunno, peoples abilities vary ... i think the girl who opened the throttle while walking her scooter across the carpark ( resulting in a rather nasty few minutes of drag action whilst wearing jeans and converse) , then got turned down for the road ride ...suprise surprise, may have benefitted from a taster session first Quote
Lumor_uk Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 i had a free taster session before my CBT. provisional is fine. have fun and enjoy it. Quote
rennie Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 moved to the correct section just listen to what the instructors tell youthen do it you'll be fine!Above all enjoy it! It's meant to be fun Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Well, I have my CBT today. It's 5am at the minute because I have to go to work for a few hours, then have to start my CBT at 9. Going to be so tired and nervous. Quote
scanty Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 And wet. you'll be fine. did my CBT in the rain and it was the first time I'd been on a bike.Where you doing it? Quote
Guest Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 And wet. you'll be fine. did my CBT in the rain and it was the first time I'd been on a bike.Where you doing it? I did mine at the team vally. I couldn't do the road test today, I forgot my glasses, so have to go back. I had no accidents and everything went well. Only problem I had was I kept stalling the bike at first, once I got that sorted I shifted gears up fine, but when I shifted down, it kept jolting because I wasn't slowing down enough. Quote
