Day 91 Preparing the Engine to be Cleaned

Recommended Posts

Got the big job out the way (getting the engine out of the frame) now I have to prepare it to be washed, degreased, possibly paint stripped and sand blasted (or soda blasted).

I wouldn't recommend any sort of blasting on a complete engine mate. Possibly soda or vapour blasting , but nothing else. Have read and seen all sorts of carnage caused by blasting complete engines

Just looked at your blog. You will not completely block the exhaust and inlet ports or any other orifices, if you are gonna pressure wash or blast your engine. There is no substitute for scrubbing it with a wire brush, rotary brushes and an acid or caustic cleaner if you are careful, UNLESS you strip it to inspect the internals and do a proper job. It ain't that difficult and you will learn a lot. I have seen perfectly good COMPLETE engines destroyed bt blasting!!!
