illvibetip Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 i bought a new battery 6 months ago and havent used the bike much since buying it. i started using it again a few weeks ago and first day had to bump it. i then rode it 150 kms, straight. i hoped this would charge the battery but it seems to stay charged for about 5 mins... so i suppose it would be better to change it? im getting a bit sick of bumping it twice a day for work. anyway, i was wondering, is there anything i should know if i go to place a buy a brand new battery and fit it myself? will i need to charge it or do anything to it before using it or can you usually just put them straight in? thanks in advance Quote
Chrissb6 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi, If it possible get yourself a optimate charger or simular. Batteries do not like to be left in an inactive discharge state. Some info here that might help youhttp://www.yuasabatteries.com/maintenance.php Quote
Stu Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 they should come already charged and ready to go before you buy a new battery get a multimeter and test the charging system to make sure you are getting enough charge I suspect you are as one the bike is running it keeps running Quote
Decor58 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I would highly recommend the CTEK charging system, if you shop around you can get them for as little as £35, though some places charge over £100!It is capable of reviving batteries with very low charge and will maintain charge on a battery so you can leave it plugged in indefinitely.A very good product, just make sure you get the correct voltage and ampage charger for your bike.
