tuktuk Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Hi guys, been busy today stripping my wheels down before having them powder coated.I have come to this piece but the bolts are just snapping. I sprayed them with lube the night before as i knew they would be awkward. Here are the results so farhttp://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff215/tuktuk_photo/20130504_175555_zpsb3e7ed42.jpgMy options seem to be buy another wheel, im just worried another wheel could have the exact same problem. Or have the bolts drilled out and the threads repaired/cleaned up.Does anyone know of an engineering firm i could have this done at in the north east or even somewhere i could post the wheel to ?Thanks. eastanglianbiker Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 to be honest i would of left them bolts well alone and had that section taped up as the cush drive sits in there, but yo might well have same problem with disc bolts just be carefull but i think best way out now would be to find a tatty wheel to use as replacement Quote
Smokin Joe Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Buy a screw extractor kit - around a fiver on ebay - and get them out yourself. I've just done that with two cross head screws where the previous owner had mashed the heads. If the threads need cleaning, a set of taps can be had for 7 or 8 quid. They're worth buying because that sort of kit isn't used much but can get you out of a jam. Quote
oslin06 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Use a bit of heat as the alloy will expand before the bolts and make them easier to get out,Keith Quote
jal123ddd Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 can use heat to get them out ,or have them driiled out or do it your self if you can but I would say if your goer have that problem of looking for a answer I would settle for new if it can be afforded go luck in this Quote
tuktuk Posted May 26, 2013 Author Posted May 26, 2013 Thanks for the tips guys. I tried heating up the remaining bolts with a heat gun to see if i could remove those before looking at the snapped ones. One came out but the rest snapped. In the end i bought another wheel and left that part on for powdercoating.http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff215/tuktuk_photo/20130523_193121_zps851ffbe4.jpgHad the tyres put on yesterday and im going to get the bearings and seals in today. Hopefully have the bike back on its shoes today! Quote
