A couple of questions about new licence and CBT

As I passed my own test before all the new restricted licences etc I'm not sure on a couple of things.

My Son did his CBT when he was 16 on a 50cc scooter. He has been riding around quite happily on this since March last year with no intention of passing a moped test because he wants a bike licence. His CBT runs out in March next year and it's unlikely that he will be able to afford a 125 prior to that. The first question is about the CBT - will the CBT he passed on a moped be acceptable to ride a geared 125? I don't think it will but he disagrees.

I have advised him to get his theory sorted and then take a course to take his mod 1 and 2 tests with a school. That way he has a licence before he can save for the bike which will look a little better with some insurance companies.

Am I correct in telling him that an A1 licence will only allow him to ride a 125 but he can't take an A2 until he is at least 19 anyway?

Regards,

Andy

I did think that if the CBT was obtained on a twist and go automatic it will have a restriction for automatics only and wouldn't be any good for a 125 geared bike.

Seems that only applies to mod1/2 though so it's down to the rider to learn using clutch/gears without requiring another CBT
