Printed insurance doc OK for post office?

I bought a second-hand car today and need to tax it on Monday at the post office because the tax disc expired on Thursday just gone.

I insured it today and the insurer sent the certificate by email and will be sending the same thing by post.

The car is a good 'un, has valid MOT cert, etc, etc.

The question is, will the local Post Office's hatchet-faced old boot who hasn't smiled in 20 years accept a printed copy of the insurance policy from my black-and-white laser printer or will she insist on seeing the one sent by the insurer (which is probably printed on a colour laser printer, with that being the only difference!) If in doubt, I could go to a while-u-wait printing place and get the document printed in colour - if they are allowed to do that (there's probably some law that says they can't, I'll bet ...)

Encouraging, but I have my reservations. I have taxed everything online for several years now, but can't tax this one online because the disc is expired.

When I used to tax in person before the online method came in, the aforementioned hatchet-faced old boot was notorious for refusing to issue tax discs on completely trivial grounds. She took a certain pleasure in making life difficult for people. Mind you, perhaps she has left the place now. Or died. Preferably while having a shit.

I wouldn't leave the post office then until she'd given the tax disc. It's still within their reach to ring the insurance company involved and check the reference number and name. So long as the insurance is there, they're not allowed to refuse tax.

With more and more insurance companies offering online only documentation they're going to have to go down the route of checking every time directly with the insurer rather than just going off the printed document.
